Barto might be a retard, but if numbers are true, we were really paying to Messi "pharaohs amounts of money".

From what I have read:
- from June of 2017, Messi is earning 138m Euros per season
- 115 millions bonus if he extends (or stays, I didn't understand that part but apparently he got this bonus also)
- 78m loyalty bonus

For example, Lewandowski is earning 20m per year and Zlatan 7m per year.

When you add Messi's loyalty bonuses and extension bonuses, he is earning 150-200m per year.

Is current Messi 20-28 times better than current Zlatan and 7-10 times better than Lewandowski?

The point is that we have crazy and unrealistic wages.

We are paying Messi and majority of players as if they are goats from 2011.

Insane wages paired with 165m for Coutinho, 150 for Dembele, 120 for Griezmann, 40 for Arda, 30 for Trincao
= 500-ish M from transfers and 550-600m for Messi only in the last 3 years.

These two factors alone are worth 1b debt.
And this is without wages for Busi, Cou, Dembele and similar.

They are paid like Ballon D Or winners, yet in reality they play like grannies and get smashed 8:2.

I am usually not a fan of young players, but seriously, sell everyone and play Pedri, Ilaix, Fati, Araujo, Mingueza and co.

They can't be much worse, yet they cost 300-400m less per season.

The 138m a season includes his extension/loyalty bonuses.

The numbers are not really new information.

It is not all about comparing what gives on park either as Messi brings in income although doubt to extent is made on here at time in Messi paying for himself.

Yep, think everyone knew this near enough. A better figure to see would be the net amount he costs/brings in to the club. We don't know that answer. A reliable source quoted €300m a season which is hard to believe. if it's 1/3 of that then he nearly covers it anyway. non-story for smooth brain people to yell about

The 300m figure cant be accurate.

The nearest comparison would be Ronaldo and although Real could well have a stronger brand they lost nothing close to that when Ronaldo left and he is just as marketable.

Also Messi link with Barca would continue to pay off once he leaves. Would be vast majority strips etc are still sold with Messi 10, the legacy of Barca, museum, video library etc will all still be making money from his name.

I don't think 300m is accurate but as I said if it's 1/3 of that his contract is pretty much paid for. I totally overlooked the income he'll generate even when he's left, yet more reasons for people to not be too fussed by this then.

Who really cares about his ridiculous contract, and why is this headline news today? For Messi to agree to this, he has to be offered it and that falls on the idiot who is now in hiding, and the other idiot who just escaped prison.

I think people on the forum underestimate the impact of this leak. While many of us knew the 100M figure, most average people in Spain don't really know that much about this. I came across this at 7:00 AM this morning on a Spanish news channel that very rarely reports on sports, and even lesser on anything other than the score of a game. It's absolutely everywhere, and the issue is obviously trending big on Spanish twitter and social media. This leak, in my opinion, is the final nail in the coffin for any chance that Messi might stay post the summer, for a multitude of reasons. Not to mention the Hacienda (tax authority) rubbing their hands in glee with the new info that has come out.

While we knew the 100M figure from before, the fact that he has things like 'playing 60% of the games' as variables effectively means his 'fixed' is actually higher. He has already earned the right to be paid 91% of the total 555M, which tells you that the variables were never really 'variable', considering we haven't done well in CL and we even lost the league last year.

I can see Messi losing whatever little motivation he had left in the wake of the sure shot chaos this is going to generate, and while leaks like this prove yet again why this club's management is so despicable, it definitely feels like a bit of a slap in the face when you see Messi 'devoid of motivation' or walking on the pitch when 'he's not happy', when the club has effectively and foolishly given you about 14% a year of the TOTAL revenue it makes, making you the most highly paid player in sport by a light year and then some more.

Most likely leaving, yes. This strengthens that possibility even more now, to the point where he's 99.9% gone IMO. As for why the tax office would be interested, his actual full contract, not just headline numbers, has been leaked. Obviously they'd be taking a real close look to extract even 10 euros more if they can, and open the can of worms once again.

Probably does but think he was gone anyway.

What difference does contract being release make to the tax office? You seem to be suggesting Messi team would be trying to pull wool over their eyes and avoid paying which seems a leap.

That is not what I am suggesting at all, not sure where you get that from.

Taxes are quite complicated and anyone who has filled a tax form can agree that a lot of it is subjective and open to interpretation. Now when you're talking of a player with numbers and complicated revenue streams like Messi, it is VERY much of an art than a science, when it comes to your tax reporting. It's not as simple as 100-40=60. Given that the Hacienda has made it a point to make an example out of Messi (as evidenced by them accosting him on the airplane recently) having the actual contract of a player can give them a lot of fodder to make arguments or deny claims made by Messi's accountants.
