Lionel Messi - v7

If PSG doesn't sell Mbappe, how are they going to afford to sign Messi, from the wage perspective? I am not sure about breaching FFP since Messi will come for free so it is probably OK.

That's what I'm saying.

They can't sign Messi without breaking the rules. Clubs need to balance football-related expenditure - transfers and wages - with television and ticket income, plus revenues raised by their commercial departments. Money spent on stadiums, training facilities, youth development or community projects is exempt. They just lost over 200m euros due to COVID and lost a lot from their TV deal. Besides, their ticket sales are obviously down.

They're not going to sell either Mbappe or Neymar to bring in a 34-year-old who will only be there for about 3 years.

Yes, however by the same token how would it be OK for City to sign him then? I don't know much about City's wage bill and their transfers and budgets etc. but I think it might be a problem for them as well.

I guess if there is a will, there is a way. If either PSG or City wants him, they will find ways to get him.

I am OK with Messi leaving and going to either club as I don't really care where he ends up, I am not OK with Madrid getting Mbappe for free in 2022. ;)

Well, they can pay him under the table, outside of contract. Like transferring a huge amount upfront in some offshore account. His contract would not show much to breach FFP. I guess this is not hard for oil clubs like PSG or City.

God knows how reliable this is, but it does say they have a plan. There is always a way to solve anything. For example they can agree that his salary is 0 during his 1st season, they start paying him when the 2nd season starts, and ofc they give him more because he ate noodles for a year.

Extend Neymar and Mbappe and sell of some other players opens up a lot of room on FFP depending on what salary Messi would want.

,,A new historic record for Leo Messi is approaching, and it's an important one. He is only one game away from being the footballer with the most ever appearances for FC Barcelona. If he plays against Huesca, it will be Messi's 767th game with Barca, matching the legendary Xavi Hernandez "

Let's hope Messi scores in the game he's equalizing Xavi's record.

i don't think Messi leaves. There was something symbolic about him voting on Sunday. It's like he gave the new project his personal endorsement. He still cares about whats going on at the club.

Messi defo staying.

That said, if you had told me in 2015 that it'd be 7+ years before we win another Champions League I wouldn't have believed you. The gulf in quality between Barcelona and Paris is significant and apparent for all to see, and Bayern are at a level above even that. Messi has won 1 Champions League in ten years. Unbelievable.

Waiting for BarcaOG to cry about this "mob".

It's a mob when you gang up on others who disagree with you. When you're not doing that it's just a fun little club. That's fine. It's harmless.

Imagine if Haaland goes to Bayern. That would be downright scary. Loads of Dortmund players go to Bayern so he may very well be thinking about winning Champions Leagues at Bayern.

Can’t have Lewa and Halaand in same team. If Lewa wasn’t there or was on his way out then yeah.... he’s not slowing down anytime soon either.

they would have to accommodate them in the same team for only a year, no? lewandovski's contract expires in 2023

haaland would have to stay one more season at dormund though. that's the tougher task, since all the top clubs are desperate for an ST like right now.

barca looking for suarez replacemenr and maybe star that takes the mantle from messi. real madrid looking to top off their new stadium launch with a big star.

Haaland will go after this season, city seems to be the best option for him. He will score 50+ goals every season there while Mbappe will struggle to score 30 goals.
