Im pretty sure Messi cares for his stat tally, quiet alot actually. Maybe he is slightly less obsesive than Ronaldo. People really buy to easy into those statements that Messi doesn't care for other than team trophies, the guy has a huge ego.

because we've got plenty of evidence messi doesn't care about stats. how many times has he given a pen to a teammate or not gone all in for the hat-trick. never seen CR7 do either.

I'm pretty sure Messi loves to do well and have great stats, but I've never seen him be obsessive about it, not like Cristiano whose entire career have revolved around trying to prove people he's better than Messi.

None of that is actual reasoning.

I don't want to go through last 5 years of stats, but from the top of my head, Messi has given at least 10-15 pens away to Ney and Suarez. He also didn't take all the freekicks when there were better shooters like Alves and Xavi from some angles. Since 12-13, he's never religiously chased a hat-trick in the dying minutes of a game. These are all pieces of evidence.

All you have is a lot of "Well how do you know ___ " when you're the one who was implying the rest of us are sheep and buying into a certain narrative of Messi. Maybe don't do that and you won't get shut down?
