Lionel Messi - v7

Yeah tired of that narrative. Plenty of times messi trained hard as hell and Ronaldo was always a very talented player despite overachieving in his career.
They make Messi look like Romario. If he was like that there would not have been longetivity. He would have fallen off years ago.

There's a strange culture in the English Press of speaking absolute bollocks and getting away with it.

Never seen a such thing here in Norway. It's fascinating.

Even stranger is their absolute fascination with CR7. Do they not remember the 06 WC, lol?

So we're supposed to believe Messi won 4 straight Ballon D'or, 2 CL, 2 CL SF, 3 La Liga and scored 38, 47, 53, 73 goals in those 4 seasons by half-assing it at training? Under a manager like Guardiola?

The 'lazy genius' narrative is getting out of hand. You can't remain elite for 15 years and world best for 10 years in a global sport like football by half-assing it.

Agreed, that sounds more like Ronaldinho. If Messi was doing the same thing there is no way he would preform for so long consistently.

You're welcome
Messi did have a few seasons where he was drinking Coke and pizzas in abundance. He got notably fatter. Messi is driven but Ronaldo has been more disciplined throughout his career definitely. But the narrative that Messi is pure genius without hard work is nonsense.

Messi obviously worked hard enough to get where he is, but it is true imo that being hard-working is not one of his many qualities.

Not that stamina is necessarily connected to hard work. Theres a Barca B video of 17 (?) years old Messi sprinting and you can see his pain/determination in his face. Maybe he got comfortable, but he worked his ass off to get where he is.

according to Arnaud Tulipier (France Football journalist) there was an extremely tight vote this year. This is a good news for Messi because judging also by previous awards no way would have been Messi to smash the competition but more likely VVD.

The bad news is that if he loses for a few points the pain in the ass will be huge :valverde:

I remember Ronaldo losing to Sammer in 96 for just 3 points :ninja_hide:
