Lionel Messi - v7

What do we need to sign Messi?
-Umtiti, Pjanic, Braithwaite must leave.
-Maybe Griezmann
-Selling Ilaix
-Wages cut to Pique, Busquets, Alba and Roberto.

So...

All of that isn't going to happen. I doubt we can get rid of Umtiti and Griezmann. Umtiti has barely played and is on massive wages. We also can't get rid of Dembele due to him being injured. I doubt we can get rid of Coutinho due to the same reasons as Umtiti. Griezmann is decent, but he's on roughly 3 times the amount as Umtiti is.... and I doubt that many teams are interested in a 30-year-old who is on massive wages. I could see Griezmann taking a big pay cut to play for Atletico, but I doubt he'll do it anywhere else. I doubt that Alba will take a salary reduction. Can't see Busquets doing it, either.

Pique and Roberto probably will take a salary reduction, but I doubt that's enough to sort this mess out. Don't forget, we still need to register Messi and the 4 other new signings. It's going to take a miracle to sort this out.

Laporta said today that the new signings can all be registered. Make of that what you will, but I don't think he would lie there. Messi is an issue, but it was always going to take time to sort the future of certain players. And I am not sure we should go nuclear yet with half the window left to speed things up (if even possible).

100%,
no shadow of a doubt.

What's not to understand?
There's fuckall happening during the transfer window and folk need to fill their time.
You should see Madrid forums and people's incessant see-sawing on Mbappe. Madrid press doing overtime churning out pointless articles how Mariano has been forgotten about, Asensio claiming he hasn't spoken to Ancelotti yet etc etc.

PS so how big a loan is Laporta gonna end up taking out to pay off the contract severance for Griezmann, Coutinho etc?

Has already taken a 500m loan. Don't think he'll pay out Griez or Cou though, Umtiti is the most likely if they won't find a club willing to take him. Pjanic a possibility too though it seems he'll return to Juve.

Umtiti and Pjanic dont free up enough I thought? Has to let go of at least 1 high earner and pay the fine for breach of contract. Last resort option but nothing to suggest something else would happen.

3 things that have to happen to register Messi and new signings:

- Sell Braithwaite for at least 15M
- Force Pjanic and Umtiti to leave (unilateral reduction of salaries if they do not leave)
- Salary reductions from the captains (via @gerardromero)

It's Gerard Romero so take it with a grain of salt.

Also, if Ilaix won't renew we might sell him as well which will bring money to the club.

I guess we'll see over the next two weeks or so.

Braithwaite part is BS and only there to make people think him not agreeing to go will significantly contribute to Barca not being able to re-sign Messi. Scapegoating an easier target.

Don't expect all captains to conform and forego their money either. Some might.

Things look to be moving in the right direction and at the risk of prematurely applauding Alemany & Laporta, a lot of work has been going on with very little details leaking out to prepare for this

I think the Coutinho situation is the only one of concern left where little has been rumoured - I hope he is gone, even if only on loan. No way should he remain in the squad

Classic

Nothing to suggest anything is any different than a month ago.
It'll come down to last few weeks with media and fans piling pressure on seniors taking paycuts and scapegoating those unwanted taking up salary. And agents of these players know it, and will advise them against budging, because they should never be making room and will never get thanked for doing so since all anyone cares about is moving on with Messi and new signings.

All pointing towards Barca taking out more loans and more debt to pay out contracts

I was only referring to the fact that Messi will not change teams. It seems that this is sometimes called into question
