Lionel Messi - v7

ESPN just paid 1.4B for La Liga TV rights in America for the next 8 seasons.
There is NO WAY this happens without them knowing.
There is more to this. This is going to put pressure for La Liga to change the rules because ESPN and other sponsors will pull out because they are not getting what they paid for.

.@LaurensJulien: "I still think Messi will stay at Barcelona. PSG think they can sign him, but many things are still happening. The La Liga issue can be resolved."

La Liga are very surprised. They took Messi's continuity for granted. [cadena ser]

Either La Liga makes an exception in the next few days or there will be no going back. [onda cero]

THE PRESSURE BEGINS

If I'm not mistaken Dembele and Coutinho should be amortized fully next summer. That in combination with fans returning to games and the museum should relax things a bit. Not sure about the economical consequences of Leo leaving though.

Dembele's contract expires next summer, if he doesn't renew then yeah I'd think he would be fully amortized (it doesn't matter if he leaves for free anyways), but Coutinho's current contract is through 2023, so he wouldn't be fully amortized until 2023, unless we sell him, right?

Not very optimistic about what to expect from fans returning to the stadium. The Spanish government including governments of the autonomous regions agreed to start the league at a 40% capacity, I don't know if we will be easily filling Camp Nou with 40,000 people now with COVID, barely no foreign tourists and with Messi leaving. Same with the museum. Messi leaving definitely will hurt us financially from a sponsorship and merchandise perspective (however I don't buy the 300m figure), let's see what the impact is.

A senior Barcelona board member assures that the statement that Messi will not continue is not part of a strategy to pressure LaLiga. [cadena ser] https://t.co/oMm8RIQpZL

Yeah, it would make us look really bad if that was some ploy by us to pressure La Liga to relent and we do a 180 later saying "Messi stays after all!"

People think Laporta and the club have no common sense?

Hope Pep never win a CL trophy again in his career for picking Kane over Messi.

Where is this crazy talk coming from? Messi was never an option, of course Pep went for Kane. Until today we all assumed the deal was done and that Messi was staying, including Messi.

Do you think Laporta would say no to such outcome if presented with a chance? Highly doubt it.
