Messi's current play style compromises Griezmann too but Griezmann has a more robust football IQ to try and compensate. Dembele needs that right side to himself in a disciplined formation to show us whether he's any good.

Messi wants to win the Champions League. That's why he wants to leave the club in the first place. As you just said, we're miles away from competing in the Champions League. So, why the hell would Messi want to struggle in his last 3 years in Barcelona?
