Lionel Messi - v7

What happens if you get rid of the so called Amigos? Who are you left with? The idea that Semedo Arthur De Jong Dembele etc will suddenly turn into Ballon Dor contenders overnight is rather bizarre to say the least. The reason for the teams malaise is the fact that the new younger players who should have been transitioning the older players slowly out haven't done the business, hence the constant reliance on the so called Amigos.

The Amigos have seen their friends phased out in the past with no problem. What they would be pissed off about and rightly so , is if they are being phased out by players completely inferior to them. So far only Rakitic looks an obvious out and even then there are many who would still prefer him over Arthur.

spot on! xavi, iniesta, mascherano, alves, fabregas all left and nobody started a mutiny in the dressing room. if coutinho, dembele, arthur or griezmann would have done the business the phasing out of 'amigos' would have come naturally.

Xavi, Iniesta and Mascherano were all honest enough to admit to themselves that their legs were going and realised better for them and club if leave.

Fabregas wanted to leave, so to did Alves.

The difference is now there are more of these older players at the same time got old and they seem to believe they are still top top players and amongst best in world and hold too much power.

It is playing into and environment where players arrive at club and instantly have to change their game as Pique is slow, Busquets is slow and cant run, Suarez can barely run in behind or close down consistently, Messi is the same.

Results in those players favouring a slow, safe, predictable style which relies on individuals to make moments at expense of team as a unit.

Got to point where would rather see Barca dump the old core as starters bar Messi and tell them time is up. It may mean a drop in quality.... but an increase in pace, work rate etc and make Barca exciting to watch again.

The alternative of 'keep the old players as they are better' doesnt sit right. That old team will go nowhere near winning things next season regardless.

Could almost get away with not buying anyone, take players back from loan and promote players for a season and accept unlikely to win but TRY something different as not going to win anyway if dont make changes.

Or spend the money have on promising players that bring pace and energy... which wont happen as probably not seen as having Barca DNA.

When hear Xavi say likes of Mane wouldnt not suit Barca as Barca need players who play in tight spaces is worrying to. So much he says just makes it seem nothing is likely to change in future if Barca even when he arrives. Whenever that is.

yeah players arrive at the club and they get the plague. suddenly coutinho is shite(let's be honest he wasn't much his whole career apart from 1-2 years at liverpool), dembele is an injury prone idiot and griezmann hardly remembers how to play as a forward.

possession and passing is a trademark of this team. don't believe we are going to change to a counter attacking team any time soon. and don't really believe we should. we had success with our style and it's something that defines the club. that doesn't means players like mane or other explosive wingers don't have a place here, it's what we are lacking right now in attack.

it's not a case of keeping the older players just for the sake of it. it's just the reality right now, after years of fucking up with bad transfers and poor managers. but i guess it's easier to blame the players like they are running the club.

we wouldn't make the europa league spots with our loaned or promoted players. pure fantasy.

Xavi said Mane would not fit Barcelona? Doesn't even make any sense. Mane is good even in tight spaces.

I think he has succumbed to the rhetoric that African players cannot be technically exquisite. If he's black then he's fast, physical and strong, but not good in tight spaces. Which is complete BS of course.

Xavi and Iniesta even now would offer more than Rakitic and Busquets at the moment.
