The conventional outlook that Ronaldinho wasted his career and Ronaldo's attitude to his career is the shining example we should all look up to is something I can't agree with.
Ronaldo's drive and commitment is driven by his narcissism. A drive to be the best ever. We celebrate this, and look up to this, lauding the positives, whilst ignoring the negatives, which are far more numerous.
Ronaldo always seems angry on and off the pitch, constantly scowling, moaning and unhappy, even if his own team scores. He only seems to get joy if he is the one scoring. Despite, all the 'success', awards and admiration, his career seems to have been a torture inflicted upon himself by his own attitude and perceptions.
He is one of the greatest players ever, but suffers from being tormented by the fact that he is not THE greatest player ever. Just dwell on that for a serving and realise just how messed up that is. He doesn't even look like he enjoys himself when winning the Ballon Dor. His speeches often include putting others down or trying to convince others he is the best.
He has had all the success but Cris, my friend, did you enjoy the fucking journey? Because that's the most important thing, and it seems to me that your journey had been a painful one, when it should have been the opposite.
In contrast, Ronaldinho played with a permanent smile on his face. He may not have won what you win Cris, but he had a helluva motherfucking time doing it. I know which journey I would rather have been blessed with.
