How many other clubs can claim that the GOAT is:

1) their club's all time leading scorer with nearly 700 goals
2) their club's all time leading assister with nearly 300 assists

He needs to get a testimonial match in front of a 100K Camp Nou crowd. A press conference and a lame "thank you" video for Andre Gomes tier players isn't good enough.

For the opening of the new camp Nou. Bring the goat back! Hopefully it doesn't take that long.

I think most countries have a national holiday the day after the WC win to celebrate.

No doubt in a country as crazy about football as Argentina, this'll be the case.

He also casually gained like 5m new followers over the night.

HE will have the most like photo on Instagram tomorrow. Already on 42M likes, first is an egg  with 56M. Another record for the GOAT in sight.

It doesn't feel real till today, I honestly never believed it will happen.
Congratulations to him, cemented his legacy forever at every possible level, and achieved for Argentina their most success for any superstar (World Cup, Copa America, Olympic gold, FIFA U-20 and another 4 or so finals)

He is now probably the leading candidate in the GOAT argument, but won't be undisputed because of the rich history of this sport and how subjective it is.

For all the heat/criticism he took for his Argentina/international career, they are actually the most consistent NT of the last 15 years (more than Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Brazil) because of Messi:

Made 4 Copa America finals, won 1
Made 2 WC finals, won 1
Won Olympics Gold
Won FIFA U-20
Won Finalissima v Italy

The only anomaly/early exit was to Germany in 2010 with that trainwreck of a coaching job by Maradona. Even 2018 v France, they game them a hard game at 4-3.

That fact that he'll literally won everything for his country at every level, just makes him even more of the goat, no one hole anyone can find in his CV.

But some thought, Barcelona/Messi fans were worried XYZ player may affect his legacy.

I agree with you. From today when we talk about goat we should talk about Pele, Maradona, Messi on the same level

Does the team travel to Argentina now and celebrate with the fans?

The flight from Doha to Buenos Aires by private charter will take approximately 21 hours, possibly with a technical stop in Rome for refueling, and therefore the Argentine team should arrive at Ezeiza International Airport in Buenos Aires late on Monday, December 19. According to Diego Ruscitti, journalist of Todo Noticias, there is also the possibility that the plane will land at Aeroparque, in the City of Buenos Aires instead of Ezeiza

According to DSports broadcasters, the official victory parade will take place on Tuesday, December 20th.

Couldn't find at what local time does the parade actually start.

This guy won the WC with 34 year old Otamendi as CB. Who would've thought that in 2018 or even 2014. And he was solid, apart from that moment in the final.

This is why there's literally no more debate between Messi and CR. Leo carried this Argentine team on his back all the way to the final and won it. Ronaldo was a mere passenger on a very talented Portuguese team with quality players in almost every department.

Mate, you are replying to a post arguing that Otamendi was in the WC 10 or more times better than what he has been recently,
and your conclusion is that Messi carried him on his back

Mindfuck

That's unfair to the rest of his team. Who do you think won all of those penalties that he scored from this tournament? It was his teammates, who ran and fought and defended too for him to produce offense. A team effort. The heroics of Dibu too in the shootouts...

The victory is of their group as well and they did just as much.

 With all due respect to Lewandowski (terrific player who I love at Barca), he isn't even an after thought to Messi. His thoughts are about Maradona, Pele, and every now and then CR7

If someone carried the other in the current version of Argentina (Scaloni), it's his teammates that carried him for the first time the last 10 years or so,
and it was Messi that was carrying them before
