Come on it's just pure revisionism here/direct trolling (which is fine, this is an internet board), but Messi is still the goat, his performances and magic before 2016 were indescribable. After that he lost the desire to follow tactics and opted to hang around in the central areas. Was enough for LL, but coupled with another geriatric forward in Suarez, a slow-ass midfield, a clown GK, and a bad defense, well, it's no wonder we were dismantled year in and year out in the CL with ease. It is a combination of factors, not Messi alone. But he was a big reason our play was as uninteresting as it was in the last seasons, where everything was based on just getting the ball to him in any situation.

Yeah, but the difference is that City don't have already 2 Primadonnas that don't defend. They would have only one, Messi. Plus Pep knows him much better and is a much better manager than Pochettino.

Honestly those 2 primadonnas were defending today, Neymar was pressing all over the place, same with Mbappe.

It's an absolute sham and embarrassment that he won the Ballon D'or. Hasn't been top 5 player for years, let alone the best player on the planet.

Our signings were shambolic too. Slow midfielders and attacking players. Only quick forward we signed prior to this season was Dembele who turned out to be an overrated crock.

Messi is a strange case mentally in terms of top level footballers.

Vast majority of GOATS were incredibly determined and aggressive players. But Messi is really passive and indifferent which is very unusual for such a legendary player.

It is this that holds him back currently, most of all. He has no desire and his attitude compared to players of a similar ability in history is very poor.

Has been terrible by his standards in all of PSG's CL games. He has had a good CL career even post 2015, but the CR7 and RM 3peat was going to require him to win atleast 1 more.

City didnt want Messi and wont give up aspects of their team for him.

All of the front three didnt work hard but Messi is the worst for it and basically goes mute and looks lost while walks about.

Some players haven't even won one. Like Brazilian Ronaldo.

Winning 6-7 or more CL titles is extremely unlikely even if you have an ATG team.

Is this not the point? Messi was supposed to be the true GOAT - a transcendent player with 6-7 CL titles. He had 4 at what.. 28 years old? With a more than solid squad around him in 2015. Team got worse but goddamn Messi choked a lot of times in crucial moments in the Champions League. Roma away is unforgivable for not stepping up. Anfield too. He should have scored one goal at Anfield to put Barca through. His pussy mentality was not as obvious as Alba?s, but he was so half hearted in this role.
Just a very disappointing 6-7 years (maybe more) to end his club career.

It’s just in his nature naturally. When he was younger he had the wanting to take on the world like anyone else. But as you age you decide what is good enough to what you feel

Carson Wentz?

If there's a NFL player I would compare him to in terms of achievments it would be Montana who won four, but a lot thought could have won a couple of more.

Of course said in jest. Messi is a legend. But not this particular year.

I always wish he had that attitude, but it's probably his curse
