You just have to find quick defenders in running back to cover when a pass breaks the offside trap.
If VVD is not up to it right now, you should be in the market for defenders

Yes it is just preseason but today's game against Bayern has exposed Liverpool's backline several times. Of course, Bayern is quick and other teams might struggle against them too but I thought Liverpool's defense today was so bad. Caught out of position many times, gaps everywhere, everyone is slow including VVD.
Not that Bayern's defense was any better.
