Lliga: (El Clasico) FC Barcelona - Real Madrid 2-1

Don't kid yourself. You gambled today starting with high tempo play, hoping to kill the game by the end of first half. But it didn't work out, Barca defence is way better now. You started the second half completely drained of energy and you are lucky to get away with 2-1 scoreline. Don't forget that the game takes 90 minutes. If you play against us with same tactics on UCL (if drawn)- it will be your funeral.

Yeah, we were lucky to only get away with 2-1 at the end, and you were lucky to not be behind after half time. Bale missed an absolute sitter mind you.

I have to admit, I was all ready to settle for a draw when the first half ended. We played very badly; it was a miracle we were even level on points. Second half we thankfully started playing well and thank god for Suarez's goal which was the turning point! Neymar really needs to wake up and start playing good football again; he's been off for too long now and last night was wasteful and selfish. Piqué was world-class and Bravo produced some great saves; Mathieu was pretty decent and got us that first goal too. Messi wasn't able to do too much - RM were clearly doing their best to contain him - but showed up on the second half :)

Wish we'd gotten even just one more goal though; we had so many chances towards the end. Now we can't end the season level with RM on points, but a 4-point lead is hopefully enough to win us the silverware!

I actually do agree with Morten a bit. They were dominating us for a good 50-60 mins. However, that 30 or so min period we dominated them, they looked absolutely exhausted. We created just as many (if not more) chances in a span of 30 minutes than they did throughout the whole match.

The game plans were different. Carlo planned to go all out at the start. Lucho set up to wait until RM dropped off with fatigue. A gamble that paid off.

I've re watched the game, we deserved the game no doubt. after Cristiano's goal 30th minute until HT real madrid were clearly better but before and especially after Suarez goal we were better, it obvious that without Busquets we suffered more in midfield. In terms of clear chances, Real Madrid had 5 (CR 2 Benzema 2 Bale 1) and Barcelona had 8 (Neymar 3 Suarez 2 Messi 2 Alba 1). Very important win, its good to have 4 points advantage but with 10 games left and away games v Celta Sevilla Espanyol Atleti and not to forget Valencia at Camp Nou, its not over yet. We need 27 more points, there's only room for 1 mistake more than RM!

I dont think Real will win all their games, they will atleast drop points once, Valencia at home, Sevilla/Celta/Espanyol away. Lets say they do really well and only draw once and win the rest. They end it with 92, allthough I feel it will probably be less.
For us to reach 93 we need to win 8, it allows us to draw once and even lose a game.
We have 5 difficult games, Celta/Sevilla/Espanyol/Atletico away and Valencia at home, the other 5 should be easily won.
We win three of those 5 and draw once and we should win la liga.
Therefore Celta game is huge to start with, we all know what happens after a FIFA break though.

What the best teams usually do is to deliver their energy more or less evenly throughout the 90mns. This is the best way to increase your chances of success and we did exactly that. It was Real Madrid, either through design or just irrational exuberance after their nice equalizer or through pressure for wanting to win the game and go back on top, that that took a gamble that ultimately backfired. Could have been different of course, but these are always the risks with tight football matches.

If Neymar had been playing even at 60% we'd killed the game in the first half with 2-0 over RM. It was his stupid miscontrolled shot (or at least I think it was a shot) that handed Iker the ball and 5 secs later CR scored. 1-1 when it should have been 2-0 game set and match. Still I'm happy Pakistan day, Classico win, City win, its been a good week

First half was a horror show from us, at least at 1-1, but Madrid played at their maximum and were not going to keep that intensity up for 90 minutes. Their extra few days rest helped whereas we put a lot in to Wednesday playing our A game which is always difficult to replicate every few days.

Both teams have similar strengths and weaknesses but the difference is Messi. When he's producing then he'll always make the difference. When he's kept quiet or not playing well then we really struggle.

We've given Real far too many chances over the two games this season. Particularly first half yesterday and second half there.

On paper, you are absolutely right. But Malaga should have been easy as well, yet we got just one point out of 6 from them. Getafe should also have been easy, as was Celta at home etc...

What worries me the most, is not the difficulty of Sevilla/Valencia/Espanyol (games which are tough no doubt) but the fact that they are sandwiched by a massive QF two-legged-tie versus PSG (who are on high spirits and confidence after their heroic elimination of Chelsea)

Beat Sevilla/Valencia/Espanyol and eliminate PSG, and we are talking a very possible treble here.

I am still trying to figure out under what capacity was Clichy commenting on the Clasico. I am guessing it's the fact that he has faced Barcelona many times in his career.

I don't really feel like analysing this game.

It wasn't a good match from either team IMO, but..

Gerard Pique, I hold my hand up and say I was wrong about you.

KEEP GOING LIKE THIS!
