Iniesta become so important for functioning of our team. More important than Busquets. Vermaelen could have played instead of Pique, but Umtiti is not so experienced and tactically intelligent as Pique to pair him with Vermaelen who hadn't have much playing time.

Pique is injured but has been playing very good and has been used by 2 different managers. Something doesn't add up. Could've been rested.

Same goes for Iniesta.

To be fair, match vs. Roma won't be much harder than this one. Vermaelen is a great player, pair him with Pique and it'll all be fine. But Pique adds something to our back line which nobody else can, experience, tactical awarness...

Pique is very underrated because no one rates him on his tactical sharpness. Umtiti can never be as good a defender for Barca than Pique. The positional sharpness and proactive defending of Pique is not appreciated.

Though, I would still not play Vermaelen vs roma not because it is a tough match, it is because it is half of a knockout match. The reason Roberto is played at RB is because of Pique. Umtiti cannot be considered to defend with Roberto and another great defender who hasn't played a single match after injury.

Valverde apologists resorting to mental gymnastics again. Face it the guy is a small club coach with a small club mentality. He doesn't seem to have the vision to manage a big club like Barca in the long term.

barca is not the club for long term coaches, and valverde doesnt care what he will left for the next coach, fighting for all trophies every season doesnt leave much space for experimenting, pep lasted 4 seasons.
