We are all talking very much about formations, players who should play etc. I think what really needs to be discussed is our approach for the games - not whether we play a 4-3-3, 4-2-3-1 or 3-4-3, which i obviously also just a bunch of numbers that change all the time due to players changing positions, defending/attacking etc.
I have noticed quite a few changes since Lucho took over. For instance:
- Our defending against set-pieces is really poor.
- We lack intensity when we are trying to win the ball back after we loose it.
- Midfielders are covering more for the backs than they used to do.
- It does not really seem like we have a system when attacking.
- The transition from defence -> midfield -> attack is really poor.
- We do not really have a clear-defined starting XI for most matches.
So, how can this be fixed?
First and foremost we need a clear system for attacking - starting from the defence. I think that we should look like a 4-4-2 when defending. For me it is the superior formation for defending - just take a look at Real Madrid, who has changed from af 4-3-3 to a 4-4-2 when defending. Something like this:
Then, when we win the ball back, we will need instant movement from the attacking players creating a counter-attack. I think it should be something like this:
If the counter-attack fails, and we need to slow down a bit, i think our attacking formation should look something like this - obviously with a lot of movement from all of the players!
For me that would be a great way to go from defence to attack. However, when we have a goalkick, we will need another approach make the ball go from goalkeeper and to the attacking players. Currently this process looks like a big mess, and therefore i think we should get a clear system for that. I would recommend something like this:
Now we have found a solution for the formation and the diffrent phases of the game (except set-pieces, which i am not going to talk about. Lucho should be able to fix this within a few months...). In addition to that, we have found a clear-defined starting XI, which i believe should be the one on the pictures. Maybe a few changes (another RB for instance).
With all of this cleared out, it is time to take a look on our lacking intensity. This is something i have really missed the last few games! For me the intensity - for instance, when we are trying to win the ball back - is what defines Barca, and Lucho simply has to make the players play with that intensity again as soon possible. Also when we are just moving the ball around, we need more movement-intensity from the players, to make it even easier to move the ball around quickly.
Now that was just my opinion. I would really like to hear what you guys think?
