Luis Enrique

Already a legend. Since his appointment the Luiz rumours died down completely and the Benatia ones gotten very strong. Some Mathieu rumours, too. Can you imagine:

Alves-Pique-Benatia-Mathieu

Height, strength, actually something resembling a proper backline. With Pique, Benatia and Mathieu forming a back 3 it would even make sense to get an ultra offensive pseudo winger like Cuadrado.

One can dream.

Alba out and not Alves, and for Mathieu?

Mathieu would be a good backup but he is in no way Barca starter material.

I'd much rather replace Alves with De Sciglio or Aurier than Alba with Mathieu...

The good thing is Enrique seems to have the support of the board, unlike Tata. And if they or the players do try to push him around, he doesn't seem like the kind of guy that will let them. If rumors are to be believed, he's already blocked the Luiz transfer and gotten the board to go for Benatia.

His first few days have been extremely positive so far. His reception at the club has been very enthusiastic from the board and the media. So much activity by the coaching staff and the board since the end of the season that we're already close to achieving a successful summer, but I doubt Lucho will take his foot off the gas.

His first presser in particular impressed me a lot. He's got shades of Cholo in him with the way he identifies with the club and the culture and how passionate his personality is. It really is evident how much more momentum he has from the start being an insider returning home rather than awkward Tata who was kept at arms length from the club at all times.

“I don’t know what you’re suggesting by a heavy hand. I’m always positive, so you don’t need to worry about that. I’m going to manager the players the same way I have at Celta or Roma. My job is to motivate them and ensure that the mentality of each player is also global for the team. I don’t think there needs to be a heavy handed approach. I think we all need plenty of communication, all together in our work and demanding of ourselves in training.”

This is what particularly reminded me of his inner Simeone. His motivation is always positive and focused towards work and rallying the players behind him like a leader instead of chastising them (ala Cholo, instead of Mou). The whole bit about having intense training sessions to motivate the players and get them prepared well is also promising.

So far he's got 100% support and this seems that it'll be a successful transfer window, all that's left to see now is his work with the players. Unless they are power hungry and don't want to be disciplined, they'll receive him very well I feel. Most of the players he's coached so far have openly praised his personality and how much he's helped them, but the Totti situation could replicate itself with someone like Xavi if he doesn't get some humility. I hope Messi too dials down the ego and clearly obeys instructions. Alves doesn't have enough influence to go loose-cannon, if he does try to then it's out the door with him.

he is another left over of the great joan laporta's time in office, so no doubt he will do a good job, when a board as a feel for football it makes all the difference, this board clearly does not.

they need to open some back channels to the great joan laporta and good times will be here again.

Luis Enrique and Barcelona midfielder Xavi (34) will meet after the World Cup to discuss the player's future. #brazil2014 [cope]

No matter what his record was at Roma, he brought in quality players. Almost all of them played well, Pjanic, Lamela, Osvaldo, although Osvaldo was a thug, others who escape my memory, so there is no reason to think Lucho would waste his time bringing in somebody who can't make a big contribution.

Is it true that the team is going to vote for who gets the captaincy next season? I've seen a couple of articles that say Enrique wants to do that. Could this mean Xavi is out?

It as true as the bloggers are able to deduce the truth. It's not like somebody here has inside knowledge that the papers don't.

I hope his stint as Barcelona coach can be as successful as or more than Pep's.

Here's one of the best videos I've ever seen. Made me almost cry the first time I saw it.

My favorite part is from 4:11 to 4:24 :D

These past 3 seasons might have been a blessing in disguise. I think people took it as a given for Barcelona to always win, so when they don't win, you really appreciate the times when they won.

Well, I think you do have to question the lack of good sense in bringing in a loose cannon like Osvaldo

To be fair, Pep did bring in a loose cannon like Ibra :p. Not all transfers end up being amazing but I'd say Lucho has a fairly impressive track record. He got in Pjanic, Lamela, and Osvaldo for Roma and Rafinha, Charles, Fontas, and Nolito for Celta. Now at Barca it's been rumored that he blocked Luiz for Benatia and wants several other players too. Of course transfers aren't entirely his doing but he seems to make good decisions on them.
