I get your point with having a team full of players working for each, but Messi is an anomaly. Sacrificing defensive work for extreme offensive output (not only in terms of numbers) is something you cannot do with any other player except the other 2 goats.

Proved my point because those players would do nowhere near as good for the team overall as Messi despite his lack of distance covered.

This can only be verified by practice. The fact is that from the 2016-2017 season to 2021, Barcelona was not a great team in terms of quality of play or results on the European stage. We won La Liga 2 times in that period.
