ok let's say benching is not a good idea.. But how about the second dilemma, the one which you hinted at in the last part ? if he doesn't fit the "new ideas" than how can we play him again ? what would you suggest ?
Well, there are outstandingly good players, who for some reason don't play well or usefully for a long period of time, and there are weak or mediocre players who score some goals or have nice matches or moments.
The average fan on the tribune mostly or usually cares for the actual and immediate result, but the coach needs to have a different angle of view, because he first of all needs outstanding players as being the backbone of the team and he can't build a good team on bench-quality players who occasionally show some good qualities and results.
That's why in a case like Suarez's the coach of course knows that he is an outstanding and very skillful player, just being out of form, having difficulties, etc.
So Valverde has more than one dilemma regarding Suarez's present state and position, because he seems to insist on playing Messi in a much more central position. If you watched the three US games this summer, he tried to bring something different with the MSN, namely Neymar played much more centrally and the 3 of them tried to change positions more often compared to the last season. But Neymar's departure screwed up what he planned and he'd been still experimenting when Dembele got injured.
So although he can experiment further, with Deloufeu or Dennis and the like but will not be able to find a long-term solution until Dembele is back.
This highly complicates Suarez's situation because I doubt Valverde knows at present what he wants, he's just been experimenting.
So IMHO of course he will play Suarez again, because he knows he is better than the other options at hand. But his most natural position is in the center, so he either has to move Messi to the right (which he seemingly doesn't want to do) or has to find another solution.
But any working solution will only be temporary, because Suarez is NOT a winger and if he is not in the goal-scoring role, he hardly has a meaningful position, so I expect to see a lot of different temporary experiments.
The team won these recent games, conceded only two goals but we shouldn't be driven by the mere results, because the attacking formation doesn't work as good as it used to. Only Messi does.
Neither Deloufeu or Dennis represent a long-term solution and by playing Paulinho more and more he has the option of a midfielder being also dangerous, but it doesn't solve the attacking problem and Neymar's place is still vacated.
I think Valverde has no other option but trying to play Suarez centrally and find a method for other players to serve his goal-scoring instincts well enough... Anything else becomes a one-man-show for Messi (and what happens if he got injured???...)
Benching Suarez is not a good solution because just as you've rightly said he is a beast and beasts and carnivorous entities or players just get more nervous when being caged.
Not counting on Suarez would be an even worse solution, because the coach knows that he is an exceptional player, even if in bad form...
