We've been relying too much on individuals to save our bacon in CL, while most of the time the effort we put in as a team was pathetic. I see it more as a letdown from the whole team during the last 3 years. I think vs Atletico in the first year, we were pretty unlucky. Could've won the first game 3 or 4 - 1 easily. But vs Juventus and Roma, we were just pathetic as a team from top to bottom. Bullied by 2 well oiled italian teams who sensed right away that we were out unprepared there, unwilling to fight as hard as them, and equipped with the wrong tactics. Allegri and Di Francesco made a meal out of Lucho and Valverde. Players also deserve a lot of blame. Just not individually imo, but more as a shared effort and ambition, or lack of to be more exact.

Last goal Messi scored in CL quarters was in 2013 btw. 5 years ago. That's probably because the team was shit as a whole most of the time during this period in the QF. And when the team is shit, so is the individual level of each player, with very few exceptions. Same with Suarez.

Mate, he has scored over 100 goals for Athletico in 4 season and has lead both Atletico and France to Cup finals with his goals. It's pretty easy to see that Atletico wouldn't even be in CL qualification without his contribution.
