I have been more annoyed than happy with Suárez in recent years (mainly in the CL) but some users are too harsh in their criticism of him. Suárez has been pathetically bad in the CL away from home for years, resembling an invalid donkey, but that pretty much mirrors the performances of the ENTIRE team, minus Messi and a tiny minority of a few other players . However not even Messi has been his usual self away from home in the CL in recent years.
Which leads me to the most important thing and overall problem which is the team performance. If you have a well-oiled machine with young, hungry and gifted players, a developed tactical system and a strong manager, like say last season's Liverpool team, individually average players like Henderson, Matip, Origi etc. will look like world beaters while we as a team can't say the same thing about our weak spots in the team.
Instead our "past it players" such as Suárez, Busquets etc. are more exposed in an already declining team.
I wrote about which role I would like to see Suárez in, last time I was online on this forum, and that role entails him being a sub who plays no more than 35-30 minutes against elite opponents in the CL.
Anyway Dortmund away is one of the most difficult venues and teams that you can face in the CL, especially if they have a good day like tonight. Not easy for Suárez, who just returned from an injury and who had played less than 60 minutes this season before the game tonight, to shine when the team as a whole could barely create a single attempt on goal or chance.
