Luis Suárez

He wasn't stealing minutes but he was part of the individualistic attack with Messi where no one else was allowed to intrude.
It was evident even with MSN that other players didn't get room to excel. At the time MSN was good enough to succeed (for 1 season only) with an almost inexistent midfield . But now Messi and Suarez are 34 and can't carry a team.

I've been against getting Griezmann since day 1 so I can't defend having him in the team. But now that he's here I'd rather play the 4-3-3 Koeman's going for at the moment rather than shoehorn Messi and Suarez into an attack.

Easy to want stuff but maybe try to suggest a solution to the problem as well instead of going the lazy route of "a good coach could fix that". I don't think there's a realistic solution unless you're happy with the way Barca has been progressing these last few years.

not saying they weren't playing off each other, but most of the time they were the only attackers. we were playing 442. also they have tried integrating griezmann at the start. dembele was injured most of the time and fati was just bursting on to the scene. pedri wasn't here. de jong was in his first season and found his place only 2 months ago. what you are implying is in line with the amigos theory, which is bullshit.

who should have excelled with MSN around? wasn't that the dream for any manager in the world? having the best attackers and all in sync?

Barcelona needs long-term solutions. Suarez was on/off form the last 2 seasons for Barca. The bromance with Messi didn't translate on the pitch as it did in previous seasons, in family relations were great definitely, but that's does not interest me much what players do in their private life unles it affects their performance (Dembele's lack of professionalism).

Suarez is currently running on revenge fuel. If he had stayed for another season at Barcelona things would have been much different. It is hard to turn around a downward trend without making major changes. And why change anything when you have this magical thing with Lionel Messi. Some say he is the scapegoat of the Griezmann transfer, but that was just a matter of time before someone came and took away Suarez's playing minutes.

We can discuss how we would be better or worse with Suarez till end of the year, but at the end the decision wasn't really about the team but more about finances.
He was on big wages, we needed to cut it from any other player not named Messi (as Bartou wanted him to stay).

Vidal, Rakitic were already shown the door? who was better candidate? on high wage, not long contract that you can push out of the club?
It was a decision driven by the board due to lack of finances, due to mistakes made for years.

It was about finances and moving team on from core of old legs that had failed and was only going to get worse.

Suraes found himself the perfect club. Standing offside and trying to close the chamber. Yesterday he tried to beat the player, it was funny. He also can't run away from anyone. He began to fall more often. 2 shots on goal, 2 goals, it's effective. Good luck to him in Atl?tico, they will need it.

He plays there in way wouldnt at Barca... barely involved unless ball in box, doesnt have to press, cant run channels etc. Still struggles to dribble/run and pass ball constistently.

Same player as last season but has found a team that can cover his weaknesses and allow him to do what still great at in finishing off chances in and around box.

There is no way Barca can expect to play as a unit as way should and cover for both Messi and Suarez off the ball and allow them both that freedom to be match winners.

Would piss me off if Barca signed the likes of Aguero on big money or Ibra as these players will do well in teams that can be built for them but not for Barca be another pair of older legs. Same with Suarez. It is not all about how any goals score in current teams built to suit them and the team.

Others have posted reasonable explanations so I don't have much to add.

Suarez and Messi were the sole two reasons to why Barcelona stopped looking like a team. It was nine players plus those two. No other team has it that way, not even Liverpool with their star thrio have a detached attack like we had with our stars.
Getting rid of Suarez was the right move. He's scoring goals for Atleti which shows he is miles ahead of someone like Braithwaite. But don't compare those two, compare current Suarez to Suarez from a few years ago.

I would say keeping Suarez would've been short-sighted. But even that is untrue because we won shit with him in the team, keeping him would've been bad both now and in the future. In the long run it was the right move even if he could've scored a few goals here or there. Look at the big picture.

Not an earth shattering record but anything done better than Messi & Ronaldo is something :D

Haven't seen him play in a long while, but he looks slim in that photo.

A great goalscoarer keeps scoring goals, it's normal. But he is obviously on a great spell of form which would probably never happen if he had stayed.
