You guys are way too positive and you give too many credits to players.
So, wait: Malcom had a good game against RM in a CDR?
And so what, we should hand him a new 5 years deal based on that?
Malcom played 22 matches for Barca this season.
900 minutes in total.
What people are often doing here when they like a player=they are looking ONLY at his good games and take those good games as "a player's standard".
For example:
Malcom played good against Real Madrid and Inter=that is his real standard
Malcom was very bad to average in majority of other matches=that is not his standard. That happened because he wasn't getting a playing time, so he was rusty.
Arthur played well for 2-3 Months in October, November, December=that is his real standard, according to fans
Arthur played bad in the last 2-3 Months of a season=that is not his standard. That was due to some mysterious injury or a lack of confidence, for which is, as always, EV responsible.
Dembele played well for 2-3 Months out of his 24 Months at Barca=fans will again rate those rare Months=as his TRUE level.
Dembele was horrible to meh in other 21 Months=that is not his real level. That was due to injuries (where EV was guilty again, forcing him to play), or a lack of confidence (where EV is guilty again, lol) or insert random 100s of excuses.
My point is=a player's true level is an average sum of all of his matches.
The funny thing is how Rakitic was awesome at World cup, but fans here won't say=Rakitic is awesome, he was awesome at World cup and that is his real level.
No, what will people say=Rakitic's real level is hiding behind players against Liverpool and making a mistake for the 2nd goal.
But again, in a case of Malcom or Arthur, their true level is not their worst period, but their best period
Anyway, my point:
Rakitic is both a guy who plays well sometimes and who has 3 average matches after one good match.
Malcom is both a guy who can offer a world class match or a goal here and there. But who will be on Munir's level in the next 5 matches, without any obvious strengths in his play.
Dembele is both a guy who can be a world class in some Months and by far the worst player on the pitch for several Months after that.
So, let's go back to your post: Malcom played good against RM. So what?
We paid 40M for him.
Of course that a 40M guy will play good matches and score some goals.
The sad thing is, a 40M should have offered way more than 2-3 good matches. And that is NOT only because of EV.
Malcom had lots of chances against shit opponents but he played very, very bad.
And as I have mentioned a few weeks before, there is one statistical problem regarding Malcom.
WHENEVER this guy starts as a starter, we are playing a crappy match.
His all starts for Barca this season:
1. Barca:Betis 3:4, 57 minutes (Malcom, Suarez, Messi)
2. CDR, Levante:Barcelona 2:1, 67 minutes (Coutinho, Malcom, Dembele)
3. CDR, Sevilla:Barcelona 2:0, 63 minutes (Malcom, Boateng)
4. CDR, Barca:Real 1:1, 76 minutes (Coutinho, Suarez, Malcom)
5. Villareal:Barca 4:4, 90 minutes (Coutinho, Suarez, Malcom)
6. Huesca:Barcelona 0:0, 90 minutes (Malcom, Boateng, Dembele)
7. Celta:Barcelona 2:0, 90 minutes (Malcom, Boateng, Dembele)
8. Barcelona:Getafe 2:0, 78 minutes. FINALLY a win! (Coutinho, Messi, Malcom)
9. Eibar:Barcelona 2:2, 73 minutes (Malcom, Messi, Roberto)
9 matches with Malcom as a starter.
We won only ONCE.
But hey, he played well against RM once...
