Malcom

Considering that Malcom occupies the same part of the pitch as dembele, It was a no brainer for valverde to try and see how Malcom can perform on the left, That’s the whole point of these friendlies, To **cking experiment, And see the highlights and limitations of your players.

And Munir occupies the same part of the pitch as Suarez , so should he have put him on the right wing or the left wing to see how he would perform there ? Same goes for lenglet , he occupies the same position as Pique and Umtiti. Why did he even bother playing Arthur centrally aswell should have tried him as an RM to test his limitations as you mentioned , as Rakitic and Busquets will most likely take the double pivot posistions.

Would be interesting when both flanks are occupied by Malcom and Dembélé.
They seem to have the similar playing styles.
Wonder how it will turn out.

Malcom is a bit more direct player with better defensive workrate so it can definitely work.

With acquisition of Malcolm and Arthur, I'm convinced that we finally have a... counter attack. Something that has been missing for so, so long.

If Malcom develops his off-the-ball attacking runs (like Pedro did) for Messi to pass to then I feel the he will do well for the team.

I think he showed a lot of promising signs. He is an intuitive dribbler and protects the ball a lot better than Dembele, using his body to shield. Dembele can accelerate faster but hasn't learned to shield the ball yet while Malcom is mature and crafty. He also has a very good feel for shooting and setting up the dribble prior to shooting. He can create space to score well and has good striking instincts, which could be greatly improved training next to Messi and Coutinho.

Malcom's passing incorporates a lot of 1-2's and pass->move plays. It's great that he's an active player both on and off the ball because that is important in playing next to Messi. I think his decision making is very solid too.

Could be an unexpected breakout player IMO, has the foundation for a lot of very high level skills and maybe being at Barca will unlock his potential.

Both Malcom and Dembele are the same age and while Dembele is more talented of the two (My Opinion) Malcom is no slouch at all. He has a number of things which he's better than Dembele right now, which like DonAndres points out above.

I bet Malcom is going to Push Dembele more than Willian would have IMO. Both are the same age, Malcom from the first day we signed him has the look of a guy that wants to prove a point. Which is good news and if this gives Dembele the motivation to work and win his spot it will force Valverde to start thinking about possibly slowly phasing Suarez out.

With the skillsets that he has and his age, i think he can be moulded into a proper cf, something like Gabriel Jesus.

Won't be surprised if he ends up playing there at some point this season.

I could see him having a problem adapting to Barca. Not that the guy can't pass, it's just.. big club and possession football. If a player like him starts being afraid of making a mistake or losing the ball, he will likely end up with an identity crisis. We see it all the time in top European clubs.

Something about Neymar's years for us that I don't think people recognize enough is the balance he struck between believing in himself and listening to his critics.

He'll definitely lose the ball a lot and have shit games once in a while after which some will call for him to stop dribbling all the time or shooting from distance or whatever. I hope he has the confidence and determination to power through in those moments. The potential is there, no doubt, and the talent will determine to which degree he will learn to eliminate those mistakes and improve.

He'll be fine mate. The way you put it, it sounds like he'll freak out and turn into another Gomes. Not a chance of that happening.
Have you looked at him play? he fits into our possession game quite well, as Don Andres said and if you look at how he played in Bordeaux, he likes to cut inside and play 1-2's and make runs off the ball.

He's only 21 and has lots of room to grow. He had 12 goals last season just 1 short of Mbappe playing with nobodies in midfield. Mentality wise, i think he seems more confident than Dembele, like BBZ said he has that spark and swag or whatever you want to call it. He was pretty much the main man at Bordeaux, look at the stats, lead the team in goals and assists and just 21 years of age, so he knows a thing or two about pressure and confidence. Playing with the players we have will only make him better.

I'm just saying, the fact that he won't be the main man here means that he can't afford to misplace passes and lose the ball at the same rate as he could in Bordeaux. There he basically had a free license to do his thing.

Here, there's a different agenda. Dribbling two players and losing the ball on the third might get you applause if the alternative was picking out Martin Braithwaite. Do the same when Messi, Coutinho or Suarez is open and the verdict won't be as favorable.

Inevitably he will have to adjust his game somehow. Doing that without comprimising your qualities can be a difficult balance to strike for a young winger that isn't raised here.

Since I haven't watched him at all, I am happy about this guy skillset and overall play. He could prove to be a great addition to our team. It's preseason and only one game but thumbs up for this guy. Positive.

Good point. I hope he will adapt soon.

I think Malcom has something that Dembele doesnt, I think When he gets the ball hes always postive and knows what he wants to do. Dembele gets the ball and not even he knows what hes going to do. Great debut by Malcom. Great signing
