Malcom

Yeah playing him on the left limited him quite a bit but he did contribute defensively. It wasn't until he was finally moved to the Right where he started to show some of his talents.

Let's hope Valverde doesn't fuck this up as well. He has an elite squad to choose from. A lot of managers don't have a winger like Malcom in their team. We have him as an extra option to choose from.

Was he trying to show the board how dissatisfied he was with not getting willian ? Starting him at the left made no fucking sense especially when this perez guy was taking his position on the right.

Considering that Malcom occupies the same part of the pitch as dembele, It was a no brainer for valverde to try and see how Malcom can perform on the left, That’s the whole point of these friendlies, To **cking experiment, And see the highlights and limitations of your players.

Most likely yeah.

However we already know Dembele is more than capable playing on the left. He's played as a LW, RW and CAM for all the teams he's played for so that transition would be way smoother.

Agree about Dembélé but I heard that Malcom used to play LW in Brazil. Does it matter ? I don’t know since he always played RW at Bordeaux for the last 2 years.

I thought Dembele was the one who plays LW often. You can't be a scoring LW if you are a leftie, unless you play more like a wide forward.

Or play a way more dynamic setup with 10x better movement than we have, which is what Sane and Sterling does for Man City.

Every elite wide player can play both sides. Wouldn't read too much into him playing on the left. Valverde's using preseason to experiment like he should.

Would Robben have been effective at LW in his prime? Not nearly as much as when he plays a RW.

Depends on the winger. There are wingers who have classic paths that they like to go into and shoot. Robben is one of those players. With him you know he's going to drift inside at some point and have a shot with his left from the right, but you don't know when he'll fake it, or when he'll do a feint and pass, or when he'll actually pull the trigger.

Same with Messi btw. Did he ever play LW for us?

At same age Robben played some serious time as LW IIRC, Ribery too was RW. But it was just when those too was too good to adapt to the team they played in their most comfortable position

I just watched his invdidual highlights from last night, and I think he looked pretty good. Good pace, good link up play and some nice passes too. Gave the ball away once, but looked a threat on both wings. Got a decent shot away too from the LW.
