Manchester United

The main problem with United, I think, it's that the players they rate highly (the club, the coaching staff, and the fans as well) are really not that great. Many of their first teamers are average players. If you follow the Martial thread on Redcafe, you'd think he's some sort of French version of Neymar, that's how highly they think of him. In reality, Williams from Bilbao is very close to Martial. Just an example.

Another example is Schneiderlin. Great player according to many United fans, yet, at 26, his European experience is almost zero. Zilch. Non-existent. Is that, really, a great player? How?

EPL is like a bubble where standards are created by the system and they exist only within the system. Average players are called great, and good players are considered incredible, or world class. There are maybe 5-6 world class players in the entire league. United has (arguably) one, De Gea. And his form is nothing special right now, I think Claudio Bravo is better at the minute.

United is the best example of a distorted Premier League type of rating players.

A film like Moneyball (with Brad Pitt, just watched it again yesterday, great movie) could be made based on the british style of evaluating professional football players.

Actually, what happens at Leicester FC reminds me of Moneyball, players that nobody rated, nobody even knew they existed (let alone had interest in buying), have taken the no1 spot in that League just by following basic football principles. It's a clear example something is way off in England. Way off.

Exactly. When a team underperforms most of the times the coach is blamed for everything just like at manu. Not that LVG is good or anything but the problem lies more than the coach. For starters they have a pretty overrated squad. After spending like 200m or something they have only 1 world class players(de gea) and some good players(mata etc) and a lot of dead wood that starts(fellaini rooney etc).Sacking LVG would be a good and the best possible start for now though.Although I can't blame them to not go for players. They literally bid on every player.Spending the money on the right players from them would be a good move after sacking lvg.

He did some pretty big mistakes though, like relying on Rooney to be their sole striker, when it was obvious he was on his way down. Chicarito is a good/decent number 9, doing well in bundesliga, he was sold. Loaning out/selling other attackers wasnt the brightest of ideas either.

So, is he going to get sacked anytime soon?

Maybe before chelsea. But anytime soon? For sure. Its inevitable. He's going to get sacked sooner or later(later being the end of the season),unless manu turns world class suddenly which is pretty impossible.

Not sure what is worse, sticking with LVG, Giggs as interim, or getting Mourinho. Id pick option a or b until end of season and go balls to the wall all out for Pep watching Jose on the bench would be vomit inducing. But objectively speaking there is no reason Pep would choose us over shitty as we currently are, unless he likes a big challenge, going with City would mirror his previous career choice of managing the best team in each league. Sigh Klopp would of been the ideal of all of them

Mourinho is the best coach for Man Utd. Pep would be an utter flop at Old Trafford. Not sure if you watched the Monday Night Football segment with Henry recently where he discussed Pep's tactics during his time at Barca (it's here -> https://streamable.com/u4uj). Pep's tactics require class players with extremely good technical ability, something that Man Utd do not possess and will not possess in the near future. I thought one of the most interesting points he made was how Pep commanded the players to trust in their teammates to give them the ball in the right locations. That only worked at Barca because those teammates were frikking Xavi and Iniesta. Imagine trying to trust Fellaini to get you the ball!

That clip is a really interesting watch, but this youtube link actually puts it in perspective as he's in fact comparing Pep to LvG at United (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HDAkmRkbVNI). I'd say it's a given that Pep will only go to teams which have the best players.

surely he can't last till the chelsea game?

He can. Moyes was sacked 3,4 rounds before the end. Dunno whats really happening in United but as long as there is a chance of United finishing at least 4th Van Gaal will be the manager. Of course maybe they learned something in Moyes case and will sack Van Gaal sooner. But then Mourinho will probably become the manager and destroy United even more. Unless Pep choses United over City.

So Chelsea sacked Mourinho to get a chance to win against United to get them sack LVG and sign Mourinho
