Marc Bartra

I know it's funny considering we conceded three goals tonight, but I think both him and Pique were very, very good. Bartra is really making incredible progress with each game he plays, and the potential he's been showing lately is more than I've expected. Probably more than most of us expected. Don't loan him or sell him, give him minutes. He's more than ready, and he's working his ass off. Seems to be good in the air, as well.

He was one of the few players to come out of the game with credit.

Really? I thought he was as bad as any defender I have seen at this level in the first half. In second he was a bit better but nowhere near the standard Barcelona need.

Look at who he had to work with. :alves: on one side and :adriano: on the other. Adriano couldn't spot danger if a shotgun was pointed at his head. And Dani alves ... well we all know how he "defends".

He (Bartra) is a rookie who has been thrown in at the deep end in the biggest match of the season with a defensive partner who couldn't organise a children's jelly and ice cream party.

Give the boy some credit?

Is it me or only barca fans says positive things about the kid? he wasn't that good at all ,Bartra is one of those defenders who shies a lot from making tackles or being aggressive in defense , while he would initially looks good the fact is that he makes the defense much worse and his teammates has to cover him ,many plays that should have been made by Bartra was covered by Pique
Kid needs experience ,confidence and some strength ,he isn't a prospect anymore (he is older than Pique in 2008/2009 season) so a loan would be perfect

That wasnt the problem it was him getting sucked out of position to far forward constantly, the ease with which player skipped by him and his terrible passing.

Give him time? He isnt good enough and is 22. How long do you want to give him?

Even though I agree with you that Bartra was not impressive tonight( even though he played with a lot of heart) the reason he was out position so often is that we were 4-0 behind, so he and Pique tried to offer an extra man...

Well, I still think that he doesn't have what it takes to be a success but I applaud his heart. He fought like a lion tonight.

I agree... He and Song, our two players that are probably the less gifted talentwise, played with the most heart..

What? Bartra was probably our most aggressive defender in the two games. If anything he tackled too much.

10 Interceptions on the night as well.

That's not what I saw. If anything I think he was being too eager at times and would often pursue his opponent back into their own half.

Central Defenders typically develop later than other outfield players. So 22, is not that old.

One thing a CB absolutely does need is a run of games. Being part of a well drilled defence is about building up an and almost telepathic understanding.

This can only be achieved by playing with the same personnel, week after week, until the back-four know each over better than they know their own wives.

I am not saying that Bartra IS the answer. But if he is never trusted enough to play week in, week out, then we well never know.
