Marc Bartra

San Claudio Bravo
Josep Bartra (father): "If they'd have given him a chance earlier, he'd also have taken it. I don't think Barça need to sign a centre back."

It's father talk time again.

Now here's the question. Do we buy a centerback which will most likely lead to Bartra's exit and people going "OMFG Rosell, HERP DA DERP, Y U DESTROY BARCA?!?!?!?!" Or do we not sign anyone and possibly regret it if Bartra fails - which will lead to people going "OMFG Rosell, HERP DA DERP, Y U DESTROY BARCA?!?!?!?!"

Which is it? :rosell:

That's not the question. There is no doubt that Barca should buy a CB. The only thing that Bartra changes is he gives you the opportunity to widen your criteria for CBs because you're no longer desperate, you can now seek cheaper and younger options to develop a little bit.

The real question is, is the team willing and able to make the CB an open competition where current form, not names, is what gets playing time?

@Indignado, he looks pretty much the same now, no difference.

@Stric, :), true, Mario Mandžukić looks skinny too, but I find him physically strong. Maybe because he's croatian and croatians are always tough guys.

I wouldn't say we need a young CB. Bartra is our young CB. We need someone who could replace Puyol right now. A 30m+ defender. David Luiz, Thiago Silva or Kompany. Anyway it's unlikely to buy any decent CB without at least 15-20 mil.

Pretty much the whole team looks like they need to hit the weight room. Barca should adopt some more modern strength training from the Premier League or the Bundesliga, this is an antiquated aspect of most of La Liga.

Agree but unfortunately I don't think that is going to happen...

Barta has good speed, he is not tiny, he is very good going into the attack, he shows significant improvement from his first year at this level. I'm thinking he is right, there is no need to add a CB this winter. If Puyol can rejoin the rotation, and with reasonable luck with injuries. Start Barta enough so that he can continue his development.

Don't agree. This is only group stage. When we'll meet again true squads it is going to be a whole different thing again in terms of defending needs.

Barta is okay for now but he isn't enough especially when Puyi is way to injury prone at his age...

Puyol has missed the first quarter of the season. Now with Bartra at least showing he is competent we have 4 usable CBs so Tata can rotate intelligently to reduce injury risks.

You act like it's without reason. Every Cule in the world is pining for a quality CB, the chance that Bartra could possibly be that CB for now is a huge wish that everyone would invest themselves on and obviously observe closely. It's better to see and over-appreciate Bartra's current form right now and hopefully nurture him to fit our needs than it is to play the skepticism game in a time where our defense is longing for improvement and we can't afford to overlook a probably valuable defensive addition for the sake of "only 2 games so far".

thats all good and well, except when he has two shit games, everyone will come here and starting say how horrible he is, until he has a another two great games, then he will be our saviour again, then another few poor games and the barcaforum cycle continues.

Honestly I thought that was a dumb clip, the way they only showed what Bartra did and made sure that we could see how very clearly Pique was not winning the ball was just
