No matter what I hope we get a new pair of fullbacks in the next 1-2 years. I simply can't stand Alba, always goes missing in important CL games and just generally unlikeable. We need a LB who can do more than just run for Messi. Not sure if Cucurella is that guy and im certain Firpo isn't good enough.

Cucu has played as a LM in 4-4-2 for both Getafe and Eibar. He's not good enough defensively to play as a LB.

If his release clause is 18m it is getting 4m now than wait possibly years for another 1.4m is not all that bad as first seems.

Money seems fine for Cucurella. I'm not sure how much higher his value can rise. Even Paco's scoring run at Dortmund didn't raise his transfer fee.

Yeah, he'll probably never be more than a 20m player and if Getafe will eventually sell him for that sum we'll get a total of 14m (2m loan fee+ 10m transfer fee + 2m from percentage of sale). Not really all that bad considering our history of selling fringe players who never really make it here to midtable clubs.

I don't see a lot of teams where he would fit in. He's not good enough defensively to play as a LB and not great offensively to be a true winger so this LM role in a 4-4-2 with quite a lot of offensive freedom at Getafe fits him well. Not many clubs play that way these days though. Maybe he could adapt as a wing-back for teams playing with 3 at the back.
