This is what always happens to young players, they will make an impact, then they will gain a first team spot, and under the stress and pressure they don't have the consistency or impact. However through experience their judgement, game in, game out, improves and their initial impact becomes standard not intermittent.
Mistakes happen and they are a function of a time and responsibility given so its natural we see a stretch of poor form after their initial positive impact, and it is not like a few games, this can span 2-3 years so depends how clubs can be patient with a player.
