Well, they probably promised him that they will have a team that competes for all the big titles. Other than the seasons before it even got worse last season. I'm sure you know this too. Someone promises you things, it doesn't work, they explain why it didn't work out and promise that it will get better. You believe this for a cycle, but there comes the time when you slowly realise that it won't happen.
So what was the difference now if Verratti didn't renew his contract last season? He would earn less and they would tell him:"You can't leave, you have contract till 2020 and we won't let you go by then." I feel sorry for Verratti that he has fallen for PSG hook, line and sinker, but he has to live with the fact that he will earn lots of money at a club where he doesn't want to play anymore.

The optics of this look horrible and it will be spun as him wanting to stay at PSG. He was even wearing a PSG shirt, this guy has no self-awareness, signs new deals for three years straight knowing full well Barca were waiting for him. Now forward to 2017 and he sends his agent out there making ridiculous comments about how PSG is treating him like a prisoner, when in reality all the damage was self-inflicted and then comes out and starts laughing it up on camera during a physio session the same damn day, looks like no prison to me...

It just says that Nasser will never talk like that with an agent (like losing his job if Verratti goes). It also says that his statements about Verratti selling 30k shirts a week is laughable. He and Nasser don't have another meeting scheduled, but I've seen on Twitter from other journalists close to PSG that Di Campli will talk to Antero Henrique instead.
