Mario Gomez

BLASPHEMY!
Nobody said otherwise lol. He played some great football for Bayern though...scored loads of goals and despite what people say he DID play a big part in getting them to consecutive CL finals. The only people to out score him these past seasons (Bar last season with injuries leading to bench) were Messi and Ronaldo. And even last season he showed his abilities with the time he was given. Its just a dissapointing way to leave. I didn't mean to imply it was Pep's fault though. His situation was handled poorly all around. With people from Bayern coming out talking him down for no reason after his injury. He just wasnt wanted there and he deserved to be treated with more respect.
I hope he lights up Florence though

Cant deny,he was coming off the bench last season and still scored in pretty much every game he came in

Only because he knew that he wasn't wanted there and would play second fiddle. He deserved more then that. Imo he wouldnt have lost his spot to Mandz if he never got injured.

He got more than his fair share of chances when he returned and he delivered bu Bayern made scoring goals easy last season - Gomez is a very good poacher but he is not such an involved striker like Mandzukic who works more for the team than Gomez does.

That being said, I am not sure if I should respect him for knowing when it is best to leave, or laugh at him for not trying to fight for his place and fleeing...

Why laugh at him?Bayern made it clear that they dont have him inside their plans. Why he would waste himself in the bench and play only when others are rested and cup matches? He did good to leave

I just wonder when they made it clear to him when Guardiola was not even on board yet - why would Hoeneß et al decide over the coach's head whether he had a future at Bayern or not? Gomez stated the day after the treble that he wanted to leave Bayern which was a surprising statement considering the timing.

Like I said before, some of my best friends are Bayern-fans and much better versed in their universe and they have no idea why he would want to leave as the management at no point ever indicated they were planning without him.

I suppose Pep wouldnt play with this kind of a center forward but yeah its a little bit strange.Maybe he felt that they trust Mandzukic more than him generally and he wont have the chance of being a starter again

Maybe because the president of the club was saying things like this during his injury.
"We now have alternatives for Mario Gomez. This is a prerequisite for success. He is good - but not very good,”
He just wasnt appreciated like he should have been. They didnt value him and he would have played a similar role to this season most likely. He wants to play 100% of the games so he wanted to move. He isn't getting any younger.

Barçapocalypse NOW!
Let's not forget that Bayern have another CF in Pizarro, and while not nearly as effective as Gomez, he is determined to stay... Gomez seems to be a practical guy and is looking to make the best out of his career...

Well Pizarro is 34 he knows that he wont have the chance anymore and he accepts to be a squad player..

Gotta say Gomez is the last of the classic center forwards that live only on goals. Nothing fancy, average passing but with excellent physical attributes and finishing. He's not the player for Pep and I think Pep will not settle for Mandzukic and Pizzaro. A new 'modern' CF must be on his way to Bayern.
