Our Mathieu replacement. That and someone for Masch and we will be very solid through the center defensively for the foreseeable future.

It's hard not to be a fan of this kid. Even Lucho liked him. :p

Say whatever you want about Robert but if everything goes as we expect it's very possible he brought us our longterm starting CBs for a total of 30M€. That's amazing in the world where the likes of Stones and Van Dijk are sold for twice the price. We could possibly also add Bueno in the mix over the next few years as he's also looking very promising so far.

It does surprise me a bit how little his fee would be.

He was considered one of Fluminense's Jewels so to speak along with guys like Gerson and Kenedy but those two went for a lot more (Especially Gerson) money than Marlon will. Marlon had played more games for Flu as well at the top level than those two.

I guess it's probably different since Marlon is a CB while the other two are Wingers/CAM. But either way, I seen a lot of Fluminense fans being pissed off they sold Marlon for so cheap and replacing him with guys like Henrique(Our Henrique) and even blamed Levir Culpi (Manager at the time) for preferring to stick with Gum who is slow and lacks the technical ability.

Well their loss is our gain I guess you can say.

So is he officially being promoted then?

Might be time to move the thread. It's been a while since we've done that.

According to Gabriel Sans (MD) Robert and Valverde discard the idea of signing a CB this window and have chosen Marlon to take Mathieu's place in the Squad.

He also says Valverde Watched several videos of Marlon, and sees him as Suitable replacement.

Next seasons CB lineup will be.

Pique-Umtiti-Mascherano-Marlon.

Good to see that Valverde rates him.

Also good that we're not buying a CB this window, we just have far bigger priorities right now.

Ferran Martinez (MD) also Reporting Marlon's agent is already in Barca, and will talk about the plans for Marlon on Wednesday.Gabriel sans already says the Robert and Valverde don't have plans in bringing in another CB as they think Marlon will be Mathieu's replacement like I said above.

Martinez thinks there's a chance he goes out on loan but I doubt it. if Mathieu is being sold and with the likely hood of us not getting another CB it wouldn't be the greatest idea going into the season with just three CB's with Maschrano, who seems to be getting injured more frequently.

Mascherano should honestly probably lose his spot as 3rd CB this season as well. He's declined quite horribly and isn't definitively better than what I've seen from Marlon's first team appearances.

Was browsing through YT and found a montage of him from 2014.

2013-14 was when he was promoted to Fluminense's first team squad. He originally was a Defensive Midfielder up until he was 16/17. He was precipitating in Brazil's U-17 team and due to injuries and suspensions to the U-17 side's CBs, he was converted into a CB in short notice and he pretty much stayed there for good.
