Its quite obvious Marlon will be ahead of Vermaelen. Verm wont even make the squad most the time if he ends up staying here

You think a 5th CB is needed? I'd say 4 is enough imo. Digne can also play CB if some other crisis appears. He has some natural defender instincts in him that may be useful. He might be our 2nd best tackler after Mascherano.
He's 1.78, taller than Mascherano. Not exactly a short fullback.

Not a 5th CB,5th option. Even last year Marlon was 5th option and we had to use him. With Mascherano age, I would want a final back up plan. Some one who isn't gonna be disaster from B team

Can't really account for having 3 or more CB's out, at that point it's just a shitty situation that you have to suffer. It's like thinking about what we'd do if all of MSN got injured, there's not much you can do. But for what it's worth I think our emergency subs in that case would be Busi or Digne, or Bueno if he actually gets some familiarity with the first team by that point.

Tarin will be back from injury this season and if he can return to his prior form he could be a good 5th option if the situation ever got so dire. Then there's also Bueno as has been mentioned before. I don't think there's anything to worry about on that front.

Look, I am not essentially disagreeing with you here. I always think 4 CB is ideal.
That said , since Abidal leaving we don't really have players whose 2nd position is CB, we lack versatility in that position.
I mean looking at LB we have Alba/Digna/Umtiti and one of highest rated players in B team in Cucu,there is also that loaned player from Celta
RB: Vidal/Semedo/Roberto to less extent Mashcerano and again one of highest rated player in B team in Palancia.
DM? Busquets/Roberto/Mascherano/Rakitic/Gomes/Samper. and the list goes on.
I don't think that Busquets should ever be considered for CB, Digne is the closest to that although I am skeptical.
The situation is unlikely, but it happened before. All what it takes is 1 major injury and we are having 3 players for 2 position and CB are the most prone to cards and suspension.
I don't want the next Marlon in B team. I am just asking if someone might be that ready if some crisis happens. Bueno and Konyk are very highly rated but they are just promoted to B team. I think it might be one of Tarin or Martinez or a new senior signing for B team.

Dont need someone who can play CB as a second position if the position is covered though.

07/08: Milito/Marquez/Puyol/Thuram/Oleguer in addition to Abidal/Yaya/Edmilson who can play the position.
08/09: Milito/Marquez/Puyol/Pique/Caceras in addition to Abidal/Yaya. Milito was injured so can take him off
09/10: Milito/Marquez/Puyol/Pique/Chygrynskiy in addition to Abidal/Yaya.
10/11: Milito/Puyol/Pique/ with Fontàs called from B team,along Abidal and Mascherano who was converted into CB
11/12: Puyol/Pique/Mascherano/Fontàs along Abidal
12/13: Puyol/Pique/Mascherano/Bartra along Song&Abidal
13/14: Puyol/Pique/Mascherano/Bartra and Song. generally those was considered our worst times in defense.
14/15 & 15/16: Pique/Mascherano/Bartra/Mathieu/Vermaelen. last season we had Umtit and Marlon for Bartra and Vermaelen.
There was always more than 4 players whom we can count on for CB. I think this year there will be someone else too. It always happens one or two times that you get in such position,probably either Digne or Tarin/Martinez.
Anyway, it isn't a big deal and I feel I've dragged this thread too much into this discussion
