Marquez makes many mistakes, bad tackles, pulling shirts etc that more and more often puts us in trouble. Don't get me wrong, I really like the guy and he makes some brilliant passes and crosses. But Pep is looking for a new CB for a reason - Marquez doesn't feel all that safe tbh, and I'd rather see Puyol as backup for CB and RB instead of being our first choice CB. But we do rotate our CB's often, so all of them get to play (besides Caceres)
I might agree with you that he makes foolish mistakes. But when you look at his performance overall, you can see that he is a step ahead of the game ( reading the strikers play ). Caseras just charges on the striker and throw the axe on the ball
. I also like Marques and I agree with you about rotating.
I feel the reason Pep is trying to get a new CB is the fact that both Marques and Pyoul are getting old ( 30+/yr). With Barcelona play style, it is not easy to find a defender who fits our tactics. Therefore, it is better to start looking from now rather than wait and risk a season or two. ( The intention of bringing Caseras was to use him as a replacement for Pyoul in the future, you can see that he has the same energy, but he lacked the brains and didn't even learn at all in his one year at the team.)
We also got Henrequi as a back up, and it seems that he has the ability to build up an offensive play. I think that Pep will test him this year but he will be our last CB resort and only use him in the Copa. >> Again, he is a young player just like Caseras and Chigrinsky who is 21 if am not wrong. ( I got the name from google, I think we should call him variable x from now on to make it easy
...
Regarding variable X
, It seems the reason we are getting him is the fact that he is tall and will be a good player in rotation instead of waiting for Gabi Millito ( I don't think he'll ever come back and play as good as he used to be ) I assume that we can finish the deal for a price of 15-20 millions.
