6m for Pique sounds like a massive steal, and it is a steal no doubt, but the fact that he was already yours and then you had to buy him back, even for a small price, makes it less of a steal then at first glance. Yaya IMO was a bigger steal.

not really, because yaya will be gone in a few years time whereas piqué, fitness permitting, should give us at least another 10 years service if not more.

I think the piqué situation is different to cesc, coz wasn't his dad a big part of the previous regime? I can't imagine the new board being too keen to keep a kid around whose relatives could use him as a gateway into the club's affairs.

plus had he not gone to england he wouldn't have become this good anyway. not only did he spend many a year training with rio ferdinand and nemanja vidic (and excellent defensive coach carlos quieroz) but he also got to spend a season on loan at zaragoza playing first team football in la liga. plus I bet english food helped him bulk up from being a beanpole ala crouch.
