Martin Caceres

Improvin' Perfection!!
Tuttosport is reporting that Juve wants to offer us Poulsen to get Caceres for cheaper..

Meh, in theory Poulsen could be a solid squad player but I don't know how much he has left in the tank..he has been better this season though, so it wouldn't be the worst deal in the planet. In a hypothetical perfect universe we'd offer him to Benfica to try and lure Luiz or Di Maria first, but Poulsen + less money wouldn't be the worst deal in the world...

In my ideal world, he'd be used either to lure David Luiz from Benfica or Marchisio from Juventus. No Danish player is gonna be any replacement for him. Caceras is quality and he could be one of the best in future, just doesn't suit to us that's all... And that doesn't mean we have to compromise on quality to replace him in the squad!!

If Juve could turn the clock back on Laudrp, then sure sure. But I doubt we could get Marchisio for Caceres, we are better off trying to ship Martin to Benfica, their South American fetish is on par with mine. Plus Caceres could replace Luiz without destroying the team, we'd have to add money of course to make it fair, but they have similar destructive roles even if Luiz is a more skilled player.

Caceres is actually pretty fast. Faster than any of the other CBs on our team for sure. We're just lucky Pique/Puyol are great at just about everything else. Pique is at least faster than Puyol, makes me happy that he's only 22 as well.

Caceres really is a decent player, he just doesn't use his brain sometimes. I'm sure with more playtime and confidence this will change. I honestly think the only thing wrong with him is his untimely, horrid tackles. Logically, unless he is a complete idiot, this should be something easily fixed over time with a good coaching staff.

I prefer Caceres any day compared to the way Chyg has played this season. At least when Caceres makes a mistake he has the speed to clean it up....that is if he doesn't decide to tackle them. Both have potential- Chyg has many flaws, Caceres only has a few mental flaws 1) Stupid Tackles 2) Marking on free kicks/corners - This can be fixed. Being slow as shit cannot.

caceres has gotten plenty more time at juve.

and guess what? he still defends like a retard.

pep never even gave him game-time, he must have shown some SERIOUS flaws in training.

I'm willing to bet you don't actually watch Juventus games, do you? Yes, he got a red card last game and it was stupid. But like my post, that is one of his problems. His "defending", as you said, however has been pretty good. He's been great at stepping forward to stop plays and has cleared many balls.

As I said, his flaws can be fixed. Chyg has too many. Maybe with time he'll improve, but so can Caceres. And the fact is, I rather work with Caceres.

Edit- The only way I rather see Chyg than him is if Juv offer the 11mil to keep him on the squad and that's b/c although I think we got at least 40mil to work with in the summer (maybe more if we win multiple cups). With 11mil from him and Henry on his way out we could hopefully get Cesc and a world-class winger (Pato/Silva).

you know, I had written out a thorough reply to your post, but then I thought, naaah. I can sum it all up in a sentence:

you would rather work with caceres, pep would rather work with chygrynskiy, guess who I'm gonna side with?

That reply would of been clever....except it isn't.

Who said Pep rather work with Chyg, hmm?! Is it b/c he hasn't openly said he is disgusted with Chyg's performance and 25 million might of been way too much spent, a waste?!

The guy has played half a season and the second half just started (and he didn't start it very well did he), OF COURSE Pep isn't going to complain in public or say he made a bad decision- it would make him look bad. He's going to continue saying "Chyg is a good player and I'm sure he's going to improve with time". He'd say the same thing if we had just signed Caceres for 25 million and given the same circumstances. If Chyg doesn't improve, than yes imo overall performance wise he has been worse than Caceres. And yes, we will get rid of him just like how we got rid of Caceres.

If Chyg keeps playing the way he is and Pep still "rather work with Chyg" then he's either a bad coach or delusional. I'm betting neither.

well, pep effectively said he'd rather work with chysus when he booted caceres out of the club and demanded that chysus be brought in, regardless of cost. then when he got his wish, took full responsibility for the player's fee being so high. then when the fans got on chysus' back on tuesday, pep defended him, reminding everyone that he is a great player that needs time to adapt, and once again taking responsibility for the high fee.

that's a pretty big tell, right there.

he didn't say the same for caceres. he never said much at all about caceres. he didn't even play caceres when we had a defensive injury crisis at the business end of the season. he moved our star DM into CB rather than play caceres.

that plain enough for ya? or do you need me to draw you a diagram?
