Sorry the names got mixed up when I type.

Ok, that's fine. It doesn't change your argument. And frankly, I agree with what you have to say. If we truly want to offload Alves, then we can start Montoya, move Adriano to be his backup, and then bring in a lb/cb that can sub for Alba.

Or we could use Grimaldo as backup for Alba on the rare occasion that Adriano is unavailable (Either due to playing RB or because he's recovering from one of his inevitable injuries) when Montoya needs resting. Grimaldo is good.

if people don't like the idea of giving Montoya a consistent run of games and a chance to prove himself this season then they should probably choose another team to support...

¡Gr?*cies Xavi!
It still blows my mind when I see people write stuff like "We will not win with player X in the team". Incredibly stupid statement.

It is quite laughable, isn't it? When we can win the league and the CL with a player like Oleguer, anything is possible. One player doesn't make the team shit.

Montoya is sound enough to be a backup RB for alves and rotate occasionally and subbed often.Next season when alves leaves,he may be good enough to be a starter.A better strategy than wasting money on cuadrado.

You're suggesting we keep Alves as a STARTER?

Have we still not yet learned anything?

Yea, I agree. Montoya is pretty good against most of the teams we meet during a season. However, at the moment, he can't deliver solid performances against top teams. He just isn't good enough. Maybe he will get better and he'll be a starter in the future, or maybe not. We'll see.

As for Alves, even if he had a mediocre season overall, he was still one of our best men in games like the ones with Man. City -- both home and away, Real Madrid -- home, Atletico -- away (Supercup and CL). He is not the player he was 2-3 years ago, but he's still more than capable of pulling a great game against the toughest opposition.

You have a better idea?Alves is past it,but I would play alves instead of montoya most of the times. At least now.

My idea is to play Montoya. Sure he doesn't have anything particularly special about him at the moment, but he recognizes his role is as a defender first. On very many of the goals we concede Alves is nowhere to be seen while the rest of the defense is getting ***** on the flank he should be defending. Remember that clasico where Messi scored his hat trick? Both of Benzema's goals came from crosses from Di Maria, who was completely unmarked because on one of them Alves wasn't even close to getting back to position and on another he was slowly trotting back despite being able to reach him if he were to sprint. This is without even taking note of the rather stupid foul he committed on Cristina that somehow was ruled a penalty. He was literally at fault for every single goal we conceded yet you'd rather play him over Montoya, who hasn't actually been given any chance whatsoever to prove he can play at a high level. And I'm going to stop you before you inevitably try to say that was "One game", because it's not. It's one of dozens. His lackluster performances are often brushed under the rug because we might win a game he was shit in or because our CB pairing screwed up in a far more noticeable way, but aside from the Man City games (Where he was far more effective attacking than actually defending, which luckily we had very little to do) he hasn't stood out as a player worthy of maintaining a place as a roadblock to our next generation.

Alves is seriously the worst part of our team during most games and I'd sooner play Patric in the CL final instead of him. Half the time even having someone there to apply pressure would cause the attacker to make a hastier move that wouldn't result in picture perfect plays coming from our right flank on a constant basis. Everyone and their grandmother goes on and on about how badly we need a new CB, but to be quite honest, we are in far more desperate need of a RB who doesn't hurt the team with a typically useless offensive effort and a practically nonexistent defensive effort.

Finally some sense in this thread

I think you did not get what I said.I am not saying alves is good enough to be a starter for us.I am saying he is the better option over montoya atm.Montoya has been weird most of the times I have seen him play.He never looks confident to me and has mostly been lousy. If alves is clearly instructed by enrique to not go forward unless we are losing or the game then I think alves would be better than montoya currently. The best solution is to instruct alves to not go forward and cross like an idiot and keep montoya on constant roatation. If he performs good enough then montoya becomes our starter next season or else he becomes a 2nd option and we buy a RB.Either way alves leaves next season as his contract expires.

And getting Cuadrado to solve is definitely not the way to go. Unless we don't car eabout getting even more goals conceded.

I hope Lucho isn't trying to copy Pep with players he think can imitate 2009 that's NOT how football works. And I am surprised so many people think we will magically be at our best if we get these players

Good thing we have you here to lecture the uninformed barcaforum on how football really works.
