I think you did not get what I said.I am not saying alves is good enough to be a starter for us.I am saying he is the better option over montoya atm.

It seems you missed the part where I said I'd rather play Patric in the CL final than Alves. Alves is a detriment to the team and lacks the ability to effectively contribute.

Montoya has been weird most of the times I have seen him play.He never looks confident to me and has mostly been lousy.

That can easily be chalked up to a severe lack of playing time (Being benched by Alves and Adriano whenever possible can do that). Even still, he'd be able to reliably defend.

If alves is clearly instructed by enrique to not go forward unless we are losing or the game then I think alves would be better than montoya currently.The best solution is to instruct alves to not go forward and cross like an idiot and keep montoya on constant roatation.If he performs good enough then montoya becomes our starter next season or else he becomes a 2nd option and we buy a RB.Either way alves leaves next season as his contract expires.

Instructing Alves not to go forward and cross is like telling Messi or Deulofeu not to dribble their marker and pass instead. They might do it but when you change the basic nature of a player you're directly limiting yourself. Alves may be able to stay back, but then you'd have an average defensive RB manning the slot, and if we want average, we can easily play Montoya in hopes of him becoming better than average.

Provides us width on the attack now that our forwards play pinched in the center but he's taken up the idea that crossing to nobody when he has no options left is a good idea. Trying to do imitate what Alves does that gets him so many minutes would be my guess.
