Vidal and Danilo are probably around the same value and age, maybe a slight edge for Danilo. Arda Turan is better than Kovacic, and will be better for 2 years at least. There is no certainty that Kovacic will break into Real's first 11. And if he will, you'll probably lose Isco in the long run.
Danilo is better than Vidal IMO and younger.. Arda is an established player probably he won't get any better but will only get worse and 8 years older than Kova.. let's see who both develop but so far for my money i'd take the current transfers we made over yours any time .

Down the line when they are trying to build a new stadium we will see how they balance that with having to rebuild an old squad all at once. Then again they probably aren't worried. Budget issues will just make justifying the sale of everything to Qatar easier.

Fair point. Espai Barca + having to rebuld the squad at once. Boy....if people are worrying about spending big on players right now then the shit is gonna go down. There's no way in hell they'll have the funds to fund that project + rebuilding the squad unless they go for other measures like that.

Been very quiet around Pogba lately. I still think we'll sign him eventually, but I'm not so sure right now. Apparently they wanted to use Gerson in the Pogba transfer, but the club took him away from Juve and let Roma sign him instead lol.

Some strange things going around ter Stegen lately, including him travelling with Bartomeu and Robert Fernandez our new Sporting Director after returning to Barcelona from the European Supercup in Tbilsi while the entire team + staff was on the team bus. I won't be surprised if a loan or sale is on cards, maybe in January.

A loan to a good club would not be bad for Stegen as long as we buy a replacement for Bravo. And about Pogba, the power here is with the player. Sources say he wants Barcelona, and since Real is stacked in midfield, I'd say the odds of signing him would be good. Sure, crazy money, but money is just money, and if he gives us 6+ years, the investment will surely pay off. Juventus won't make the CL final anytime soon, and Pogba moving in the summer is almost guaranteed. I can see PSG rivaling with us to sign him, especially if by some miracle they make it deep into CL this season (which might not be that far fetched).

If we sign Pogba, we're already setting up the future. And let's not pretend anyone can plan as far as 10 years in the future. Madrid also bought Ozil for the future and he played 3 years with them (let's not even mention the Illaramendi case). And Ozil was better when he was bought by Real than Kovacic is now.

Look at Isco, he's begining his third year with Real, and you can't say he's much more developed than he was when he left Malaga. His development is going at a slow rate.

What a bummer. Kovačić was the perfect player to buy as a long term replacement for Iniesta, and the perfect player to have for rotation in the meantime. We missed out big time. If he gets fair playing time, he will be one of Europe's top midfielders in a few years, I have no doubt about that.

And what if we ended up not signing Pogba? It is not a sure thing. In a few years time I am afraid we will experience pains replacing the starting XI, not to mention building depth. God help us that La Masia will provide a few options.

What I don't get is, how come Real Madrid can sign all these young talents and not worried about them wanting to leave, meanwhile ours seem to be such an impatient bunch that as long as they don't get promoted and getting a lot of playing time with the first team they want to get the hell out?

People here blame the board but it was Lucho who choosed Vidal and Arda.

Braida was trailing Kovacic and Pogba...

Get Reus and Pogba and it´s all ok.

One thing is certain. Madrid´s depth is scary.

Screw it. We missed out on one of my favorite players and to make it worse he goes to Madrid.

Madrid are building a team for the future whereas Barca.. well, we've seen a glimpse of the future without Xaviesta at Bilbao

Stop overreacting. Kovacic better than Pogba? Maybe in the future IF he improves, but not now.

I like Kovacic, but I don't understand how he fits in Real Madrid. I'll give it a 60% chance this will end up as a failure.

Well, at least 2 of the 5 will have to stay in bench most games. Isco and Kovacic. If Casemiro plays then James also. The BBC is sacred.

The level of the 1st team is rising. Average players like Roberto have no place. Sorry. From the top teams we have the worst bench by miles. Worrying.

I hate to be a neysayer, but I find it absolutely absurd how shockingly inept the biggest and most successful club in recent years is at transfers and building a team for the future. The number of failed transfers we've done is alarming. The incredible success we've had in the last 10 years has created an atmosphere in which obviously no one is criticizing the club enough for resting on their laurels. Our starting 11 is easily among the best in the world, if not the best, but our squad in its entirety and our prospects for the future are bleak to say the least. Why is it that clubs who are nowhere near successful as we are make better transfers, have better sponsorship deals, better scouting etc.?

How many young and very promising players do we have?

Real Madrid have their priorities right. Building a team with players that are quality right now and will be at their prime in a few years when most of our players are past it. For all the talk about Messi's time and how people want to capitalize fully on it, they're failing to realize that all the players we're buying at around the age of 30, will need to be replaced in 3-4 years, when Leo is still with us and still quality.

We'll lose atleast a year or two with replacing all those players and would probably have to overpay a lot too since our hand would be forced to make all those signings.

We'll need to sign a LB, a CB or two and a CM most probably and it certainly wouldn't hurt if we bought young quality players with a very high ceiling for those positions, but it seem like many people incl those at the club are satisfied with players that are great right now, but close to 30 and will start declining very soon. Short sightedness.

Real Madrid don't have Messi.
They can build their long term future and do experiments (even though I wouldn't call Kovacic as an experiment).

The same as when our team was crap in early 00's, it was easy back then to put a young Valdes, young Motta, young Xavi, young Oleguer in the team.
We were crap.
No matter whom we bought, we were crap.
So, then instead of losing with expensive, foreign players, we decided to give a chance to young Valdes and co.

Or, when we have +20 points advantage in La Liga, it is easy to give chances to young guns in those matches...

So, you see, there are 100s of differents scenarios.
Sometimes it is "easier" to give chances to youngsters.
Sometimes it is easier to plan a long term team etc.

Sometimes, once in 1000 years, you get a guy like Messi, and during his career, we will probably win more CL trophies than in the next 50 or 100 years.

I don't want to be "I told you so guy", but just wait 3-4 years when Messi will be gone and when we will have a new generation of players with Neymar, Pogba or whoever.
You will then realize how painful it was ALWAYS in our history to be a Barca's fan, before Messi stepped in.

About NOT signing younger players, I was usually posting how we don't need a 100M risky (for Barca) Pogba in this moment.
Or insanely risky players like unproven Gerson for 15-20 Millions and similar.

But to buy a long term gem once in a while (for cheaper sums, like 30M), like Kova and similar (especially since he would be a squad player for us now) is not THAT bad.

But yes, if you ask me, I would rather buy Turan's, Verm's, Methieu's and similar guys for the Messi's final 3-4-5 years than guys like Pogba and Gerson.

But anyway, the day when Messi will be gone will come soon.
And then matches like in a preseason when we played like idiots without Ney and Messi will be a usual thing.
We will play more or less EXACTLY like that. Except that we will have Ney in our team, but he alone won't do anything without Messi.

Anyway guys, you should enjoy these 3-4 years.
The next treble, sextuple and similar (without Messi) will come probably in 2080 or something like that.
So, don't trash our board too hard because they are building a team for short-term/today.

I would do the same, without any hesitation.
People don't understand what/who is Messi (Air Jordan) and how will the world look like when he will be gone.
