Why would he leave if Kova is keen to go? It's one or the other.

That makes sense from Real Madrid perspective, but not from Modric perspective. Whether he wants to leave or not is irrelevant of Kovacic. But real will obviously not sell him now and modric might have to stay put unless he pulls some shenanigans which i don't see it happening.

Don't think it is irrespective of the latter, very unlikely. Again, why would he leave in the first place? The only explanation that makes sense is to leave to make room for his countryman as some form of gentlemanly arrangement between the two. Modrić won everything and can play in virtually any team he wishes and would still get into Croatia team for Euro 2020. Kovacić on the other hand is looking for game time in Madrid, has been for at least 1.5 years and Modrić is in his way. Thus Luka is OK to leave to give him room, but club cannot afford to lose 2 offensive leaders in the same window. Perez made it clear that's their intent with the 750M comment. So they're looking for a temporary fix with Kovacić to Chelsea for the time being.

Luka would like to move because to experience a new chapter in his career as he has won everything at Real just like Ronaldo. Nothing do with giving time for Kovacic imo. I also agree Real won't sell Modric but saying he wants to leave Real to give his countryman chance? That doesn't make sense.

He looks sober to me. He's just acting like he knows what he's talking about. He said he doesn't believe any of Kovacic and Modric want to leave. Now the former is almost officially gone and the latest reports about Modric says he wants out too, only the club is reluctant to sell him.

Says Modric is seeking a new challenge, same as Cristiano. It's not only a matter of salary (60M in 6 yrs after taxes).

Surey Wolfe can't be wedded to this remark. I'm incredulous if he is.

As if you do because there were a few "reports" lol. Reportedly Kovacić was meant to stop training 3 days ago. Showed up to every session since.

Nah, just laying it out how it is. Modrić won't leave, because the club can't afford to let him. He may want to, for whatever reason, I personally doubt it's money.

Well, a little more than just a few! The only "report" that says Modric doesnt want to leave is you and your imagination.

with Kovacic leaving, Real's back up CMs are Llorente and Ceballos?

Assuming Modric stays, they have Ceballos and Isco. They also have Valverde though idk what will happen with him, he was playing in the friendlies at least. Odegaard too. Asensio will probably play in the attacking third.

Ødegaard will be loaned out to a La Liga team.

Lopetegui probably has more faith in Ceballos and Valverde than most other managers would, but they might be better off with another established midfielder or someone reliable and experienced at least.
