Sokratis has been better than him this season. But I agree. We should make efforts to finalize pre-deals for Gundogan/Hummels/Sokratis this summer. BVB will benefit by getting to keep their starts for half a season and we will benefit by getting the players in January. BVB can't cup tie them either, unless they win the CL or Pokal.

True. Laporte has a buyout of 42M and Gimenez has a ~37M one.

That's a good idea. We usually focus on one target all summer who we fail to bring so maybe we'll succeed in getting one if we go for all of them

We need to think short term + long term and Hummels has apparently not been good for a while now.

Sokratis has been BVB's best defender (not saying much) while Hummels has struggled with injury after the World Cup.

I'd rather we got one of Laporte, Marquinhos, or Gimenez. Tarin, Quintilla (provided he renews), and Juanma will be in the B team next year. So we can rely on them as well.

And who knows, maybe Vermaelen will be fit again.

None of these players are as good as Hummels. Sokratis is average and has definitely not been better this season, just less injured. Laporte & Giménez, who knows what will become of them, but right now they're nowhere near Mats. Marquinhos is great but he'd cost twice as much.

Hummels this season has been as good as it gets, under the circumstances. Not even Beckmaldinesta would have been beter in this Dortmund team. Apart from that he distributes the ball like Xavi in his prime.

You know.......With our sponsorship and relationship with Qatar possibly ending, a move for Marquinhos might be impossible even if he tries to force a move and we bid crazy amount of money for him.

Never thought about that before now.

Let's just see what happens this summer. Hummels has a proven track record of being world class, whereas Marquinhos won't be allowed to leave PSG, Laporte is inconsistent this season, and Gimenez is too expensive.

Dortmund won't play CL next season. 30 million and he's ours, plus he won't be cuptied. 10 million less than Mathieu cost.
