What is there to like? And actually make that any EPL club.

Well, there are few things:
- Youth philosophy (Giggs, Scholes, Beckham, Neville, etc.).
- Consistently ridiculing Liverpool
- No moaning from their manager and players after '09 and '11. Add no parking of the bus too.
- SAF is one of my favourite managers of all-time

They have my respect, as the only EPL club.

Ehhhh, no... Not at all in fact. Every sane person hates Manu and most English clubs for that matter. The only BPL club I don't detest are Saints and Liverpool to a lesser extent. I like watching the leauge though because it's very end-to-end and the games can always go both ways due to minimal tactical sense.

LVG rates him highly but can he defend, all I hear is about how good he is on the ball and how he can be a leader but defensively he seems weaker than the likes of Godin or Marquinhos. Plus he gets injured as often as Jones and Smalling.

He can't. No sense of positioning, tackling, or aerial qualities. In short, a wannabe CB. Ask Van Haal to drop the obsession, and invest sensibly elsewhere.

Nah, you're being kind. L'pool and Manu can do better, even BVB for that matter. He deserves to be playing in 3. Fußball-Liga.

Better, yes. Much better? No. Not in terms of actual defending.

We don't need any central defender urgently anyway. If anything we would need a central defender that could partner Piqué. Obviously Hummels should not be that type of player due to his similarities with Piqué. He is just a worse defender than Piqué.

We need someone like Boateng/Marquinhos/Ramos/Otamendi etc. A player with similar characteristics. Preferably a fast and technically gifted defender. Mascherano would have been perfect had he been a bit quicker and a bit taller.

Anyway Mascherano is a very decent central defender. Even despite that position not being his natural position.
