I used to have relatives living in Dortmund, so I visited every now and then. I remember there was a lot of talk back then about how the dubbing of just about every single english spoken movies and tv-series had ruined german peoples english skills over the years. I have no idea how it is now, but it was most definately a problem back then.

It's still a problem, as we are way behind the scandinavian countries and the netherlands in that regard.

Whata wonder. Winning 2 Bundesliga titles, being voted as the best CB there, featuring regularly with Die Elf, Hummels coming out and saying he's a Barca fan, expiring contract last summer.. all this does nothing to create our attention.
Beating Madrid finally does it. Makes me wonder if we have any scouts assigned in Bundesliga or are they all on Emirates every weekend.

Belgian's too, they're all mostly fluent with English, I was surprised to see the locals in Brussels speak so flawlessly!
A Belgian friend of mine told me that they learn English, French and Dutch all the way through school, its no surprise that their English is flawless.

Anyone know how much it would cost for Hummels? Probably a lot I am sure. I wouldn't mind paying a hefty price for Hummels as a defender is more important than an attacker(especially one who isn't proven in Europe...).

Haven't watched him nay times. Is this guy really all the rage? When I saw him with Germany at the Euros 2012, I was not overly impressed.

Surprised you have that opinion, ivan...I've found Germans to be among the most proficient with 2nd or even 3rd languages in Europe...particularly with English

Their good at 3 languages. German, German and German. If your a gamer, like me, you clearly see how bad their English are. Heck they even have to translate every game in Europe into German before it can be released.
I think its a "post WW2" thing. Its the same with France and Spain, their really bad at English aswell.
Although Eastern Europeans and Russians are worse. Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania are quite good at English.

On the Hummels subject, i would love to see him in Barcelona :)

You're a Swede though, Selo...English is like a 2nd language for most of you in Scandinavia...I have rarely come across a German who wasn't impressive in multiple languages...Of course, I'm an American and to speak more than one is a feat in it of itself

Funny advert, btw ;)
