I'm sorry but most of the players you've mentioned are overrated. It would be a major gamble to buy players like Mangala or Balanta and expect them to perform at the highest level.

Hummels is also overrated and a major (costwise) gamble.By far the best player in BVD's rather sacky defense is Subotic.

This. If you think Benatia is overrated, we just have to agree to disagree. The South Americans can be a bit harder to judge, but I rate Benatia and Mangala pretty high. Way higher than Hummels, but that's mainly because they complement Pique and Bartra better. You see it with Hummels; without Subotic he is really a lot less impressive.

Subotic? Seriously? He hasn't played for months and last I heard after that bad cruciate knee injury he's been ruled out for at least the rest of this season. Certainly not keen on signing a player after such a serious injury without him having a chance to show he's fully recovered

No, Hummels is better. Subotic is better at tackling and 1-on-1's but there are many other aspects to being a CB nowadays, the problem is that those tend to go unnoticed despite their importance.

Well imo both are decent players with a slight edge to Subotic.Not only he is better at tackling and 1 on 1 situations but is also more athletic,has better potitioning and seems to act more like a defender (if you get what i mean).

I think he was referring to Hummels' ability to open his team's gameplay from the back and his drive forward. There are few other players like him in those respects.
Then, on the other hand, he has always been prone to that occasional blunder defensively.

Piszczek is their best,most consistent defensive player,when healthy,one of the best RB's in the world as far as i'm concerned.Definitely one of the most underrated players in the world.

And you obviously haven't seen many BVB games apart from a few in the CL to claim that Subotic is better than Hummels.

Sorry but the exact same can be said about Subotic. He has also looked lost times without Hummels, they both have their strengths and weaknesses.

What about that Aymen Abdennour we were so heavily linked with over the summer? It seems like he's done well this season. He's tall and can cover both lb and cb, and he'd be cheap, so why not?
