Don't think we're in a hurry though. So got a few months to evaluate options in the market.

But absolutely need to sign a starter-level CB, someone already established to once and for all push Pique out.

A downgrade if you ask me.

Maybe, but Rudiger was seen as a bit of a clown before he was fit into that back three. I think one of the reasons Chelsea are not committing to him the way he wants is because they're not totally convinced he's as great of a player people think he is. Maybe they believe he's the product of the system they're playing in.

I'd rather give Rudiger big money than sign someone like De Ligt for 70m though. Top top CB. Let's hope he's past his prime and will take the Hazard route. There's always a chance 28-29 year old players will slow down.

I agree that Rudiger is more error-prone than you expect a world-class CB to be, but still... he's a beast and his technique is pretty good as well. I'd say he's top 5. Quite insane Madrid can get Rudiger and Mbappe as free transfers.

IMO CBs we should be looking for to sign are: de Ligt, Rudiger, Skriniar, Kounde, Laporte

These guys would start for us IMO, are well established and in the age group we'd like even though Laporte and Rudiger are edging towards the late 20s.

Get one of these.

I wouldn't trust Rudiger or any Chelsea player for that matter.

De Ligt is a difficult case, his performances and the poor quality of Juve get mixed up, so it's hard to tell how much he got worse (if at all). I still like him a lot, my 2nd choice "premium" solution behind Kounde, but there's some serious scouting needed before splashing 70m :p

I'd get Andreas Christensen on a free transfer personally. Been quality for Denmark, is definite starter material and we won't be breaking the bank for him. Kounde and De Ligt are the fashionable choices but very costly.

Was considering putting him in the list, but Tuchel seemed to suggest recently his contract extension is essentially done.

Think talks have stalled again. My #1 choice would be De Ligt but if we can get Christensen on a free, that is a coup. Araujo-Christensen is a very solid pairing.

Yeah.

I think we obviously need a player like him who is great on the ball with Araujo likely on the other side unless Garcia beats him out in the competition for that spot.

Luiz Felipe available on a free. A player we were previously linked with and at a very high reported transfer fee at the time. Likewise Ginter.

Also Denayer of Lyon, who is either spectacular or catastrophic admittedly.

Point is that this summer mercado is not one to spend big on De Heavy. You have Rudiger (Madrid), Christensen, Luiz Felipe and even Denayer and Ginter all on free transfers with comparatively low wage and chomp change agent fees/signing on fees (well, except for Rudiger).

Don't know about Luiz Felipe, but Denayer and Ginter gonna make me and you lose a few years of life with their dumbass decision making and overall play so big no to that.

What about Sule? Looks like he's going to leave Bayern on a free transfer.

I think Sule would be good for us. I would like Rudiger or Sule. It's a damn shame Marquinhos wants to stay at PSG. He's a beast in general.

They do come cheaper sometimes. Teams buying CBs for big money is a rarity. Chelsea's biggest signing as a CB was David Luiz IIRC, and he was a flop. 30-40m tops is the money we should be paying for a top CB. And by top I don't mean playing for big teams.

Luiz was a flop? Come on. He was not a flop. He was up and down but did very well in his that 2012 cl win
