Why do we give our players such pussy nicknames tbh.

What happened to the days of nicknames like Der Kaiser. Pound for pound best nickname ever.

El Tigre Falcao. Ronaldo o Fenomeno. Pirlo the Professor. Instead we got Messi as the atomic flea lmao.

hahaha that is so true! I didn't even think about it but once you mentioned it

note: I always call him NEO

Neo would've been a great one from the start.

Back when he was younger going on those mazy winding runs with the ball, he basically entered the matrix

Also loved how he literally collapsed on the grass in desperation after the final whistle. He wanted to win that much. The kid lives for Barca. Such a breath of fresh air in this team of complacent 30 year olds.

I still don't see him as a sure-fire future longterm starter but I've eased my concerns about how his physical limitations will affect him at top level over the last few games and I think he should have a role to play in this team for years to come. More in a squad rotation/impact sub role but hopefully he can (again) prove me wrong and maybe even establish himself as a starter. I still wouldn't think too much in the future with a lot of uncertainty about the team/club in general but for now it's refreshing to see someone actually motivated to move around and try to do something instead of just standing and passing the ball around just for the sake of passing.

I just wish he (and Fati) could grow up and develop in a more healthy environment than we're currently having and see how he'd do surrounded by players who are still playing football primarily because of their love for the game (I know I'm way too romantic here and they all play for money) or at least players who still take their job seriously enough and not the ones who mostly think about how they'll spend their (well earned and deserved in most cases) money in a few years while they're walking around on the pitch in slow-motion.

If he is able to play like this against Atletico while being basically a nobody in top flight football, you can play him in literally every game bar El Clasico and tough CL knockouts. Those could come later.
His physique will hinder him and nobody knows if Riqui will have a great career but in the past weeks he has proven that he is ready to play for Barca and he earned his spot in the team.

Iniesta lite. Takes pressure off of Messi's shoulders just the way Iniesta did. He's our best midfielder at the moment. Let's hope he can keep this up.

He and Fati show that you can play young guys without causing too much problems. They don't even look like sure future stars but they can perform on the required level right now and i don't think they're a super rare exception because la masia still has a lot to offer even though we're most likely never see a golden generation like Pep era again.

Hopefully we'll see more of that in the future instead of signing more expensive mediocre bench players.

He was better than all other midfielders combined. I don't even care anymore if he is on the level of Barca or not. The fact is he is playing better than the rest of our midfielders so he has to start every game. Simple as that.
