Maxwell

they should keep him untill summer then sell him .. last year we had a major problem at LB with Abi's surgery .. Adriano's and Maxwell's injuries .. Puyol played LB in the clasicos of CL .. he's good .. but Puyol isn't getting younger .. he's 33 and not in his best shape yet ..

Maxwell isn't the type of players that makes any trouble in the locker room .. he knows he's 3rd choice and he's happy with it ..

Maxwell did just fine playing a lot the first half of last year. Then Adriano moved ahead of him, leaving him with no role on this team. Maxwell has caused no problems over his lack of playing time, but the way his agent is acting shows he wants to go somewhere where he can play now.

I don't think Maxwell can play fullback anymore for Barca, he is not fast enough and does not cover well enough. I think he could play in midfield, but not ahead of any of the current midfielders. I think all the backline minutes for the rest of the year will go to Alves, Abidal, Adriano and Puyol at fullback, and Pique, Masch, Puyol and Abidal at CB. Deep backup can come from Fontas and some combination of Montoya, Muniesa and Bartra.

Maybe ..

anyway .. Ona FM says Barca asked for 4m (he was bought for 5,5m) .. and the transfer will be announced in few hours ..

whoa! is it really happening!?

He's but still played around 650 minutes and is an option to rest the key players against minnows. Don't think Pep would promote Muniesa already and then Fontas is as much a liability playing a full back!!

If he's really going, Pep should promote Montoya to back up Dani, and then we'd have adriano and abidal for lb.

The clubs are finalizing the last details on the transfer of Maxwell to PSG. He could tomorrow not train and travel to Paris. [rac1]

I'd prefer not to sell in the middle of the season, but you guys should also accept the possibility that Max requested the move by himself. It's not typical for us to sell in January, but if the player wants it, maybe it's not a good idea to keep players that are not fully motivated.

Right. We may never know quite why Maxwell has lost favor, or why the team seems to think it is a good idea to let him go now. Pep does not like keeping players on the roster who do not play, he likes a small group who all play pretty regularly.

When was the last time Maxwell played for us? Good back-up, but barring an injury crisis, he isn't needed. This is the best option for all parties.

Greasy Max.

:(

he was a great option in home games against lower ranked opposition. allowed us to rest Bilal and such.

promoting Montoya doesn't really solve the issue as he's a RB which means Adriano has to become a full-time LB almost, which means we can't use him as a winger as much.

BUT MAYBE THIS MEANS GRIMALDO?!

*dreams*

Maxwell was never a liability. That's insulting a decent Barcelona squad player. A liability wouldn't get 41 caps including 19 starts in La Liga under Guardiola last season. After injuries towards the end of last season and with Adriano stepping up AND the new 3-4-3 he barely could find form due to lack of playing time this season, granted. There couldn't be a better third choice leftback than Maxwell though. He would start for any upper-midtable team in the world. Just name one € 3 million leftback (or whatever we'll get for him) we could buy now who would be better than him. 16 year old Grimaldo is not an option because of that one super cool YouTube scene.

while I don't disagree that Greasy Max was a great option, especially in attack, there's a lot more to Grimaldo than one super cool YouTube scene. a whole lot more.

not that he'd be as good as Maxwell right now, far from it, but getting experience in the first-team would be a huge stepping stone on his road to awesomedom.

He just turned 16 and played one game in the Segunda so far. He would become the Bojan of leftbacks if Pep gave him first team experience anytime soon. I don't expect more than a cameo of 10 minutes in a dead rubber CdR. Next season that is.
