Mehdi Benatia

Eto'o was co-owned by Real when we signed him.

The controversy that surrounded Figo's transfer had less to do with the fact the he switched sides (other playres had done the same thing before him) and more to do with the fact that he left a struggling Barca (where he was the captain) to join the galacticos project at Real; that was perceived as betrayal, and that's why he's hated by many Barca fans (unlike say Laudrup who did the same thing). Besides, there's a big difference between club legends like Xavi & Casillas and promising talents like Varane & Eto'o (back then)

A Varane transfer – assuming that Benatia goes to Real – would thus be more similar to the Eto'o transfer, who probably would've returned to Real if he didn't have Raul & Ronaldo to contend with. But even then, for the deal to go through Varane will have to force Real to deal with us instead of another club. So yes, highly unlikely as I've said – but not as farfetched as some other members on this forum make it seem like.

If Varane comes to Barca i will have Sissygirl as my username permanently

Madrid put a clause in garay's contract that he cant come to us. But yeah they will give Varane to us. No chance a player will be transferred from Madrid to Barca and vice versa.

I presume you've never heard of Luis Enrique (& he's not the only one, btw).

I'm fully aware that such transfer would be highly unlikely, and I did say so myself in my original post.

But the fact remains that IF Real buy Benatia, Varane will have no choice but to move to another club if he wants to be a starter. In this scenario, only Barca & Bayern would be considered a lateral move, and at Barca he is certain to be a guaranteed starter. So if he's available and willing to come to us – I say why not?

Did you know Enrique left on a Bosman? If Varane wants to leave, He will join Mourinho at Chelsea.

I don't understand why so many presume that Real, or Barca for that matter, would categorically refuse to negotiate with one another when they've done so in the past?

Of course Real would rather negotiate with someone else rather us, but if Varane decides to leave to join us; I don't see why it can't happen.

Now, that's a big IF and there's no guarantee that he would prefer to join us in the first place, but IMO if we had to pick a young CB with world class potential who fits our profile and who can have an immediate impact on our performance it would be him.

You clearly dont know much about Barca-Madrid rivalry so i wont argue with you. Jesus and Satan have more chance of negotiating than Barca-madrid

He's right though. It's not IMPOSSIBLE, but still very unlikely and I personally think it will never happen (Barça signing Varane). Also if we pay a player's buy-out clause and he wants to move from Madrid to Barça there's no need to negotiate.

It's not impossible, but if he were to leave, then I'd think he'd join Mou at Chelsea.

I doubt Zubi even watched the game. Hes to stuck in the Thiago Silva 2.0 transfer saga.

Benatia got EVERYTHING we need. Leadership, good in air, decisive tackles, pace. 40M? Give it to them.

Sabatini said 61M to spite City and Garcia said he's not for sale.

If he goes anywhere besides Barcelona for less than 50M, and Barcelona spend 40M on Marquinhos or get nobody at all; it will be a colossal failure on Zubi's part.

He'd probably be already at Chelsea or Man City if only that was the case.

At no point did either clubs make a 40M € bid.

I don't know how Benatia's alleged wage demands can be an impediment to our board, when they 've put an overrated clown like Song on absurd wages, and offered a higher wage packet to Marcos, than one he's receiving at PSG.
They deem fit to make a 40+M € on mere potential, but are reluctant to do so on a sure thing. And before ppl bring up the age factor, the board bought a 31 y.o for 20M €. Surely, Benatia being 4 yrs younger, and higher rated is worth double that.

The only reason I think of is the pace factor. Pace solves everything, the motto of our board and some culers amongst us.

Romas president said you gotta pay 61m to buy Benatia so making a 40M bid doesnt make much sense. We are not looking after Benatia probably just because they don't want to pay more than 40M for a defender and it's not like we put money on the table and he's ours.

And as I've said before, signing Benatia would be also kind of unfair towards Bartra who is probably going to make a step up next season and I honestly think he deserves the starters spot.

The only reason I can think is roma not selling for less than 50m or more. Because a club saying "no, he's not for sale" is not stopping the pursue of Marquinhos. Or it's Lucho who really wants Marquinhos and no one else.
