Exactly, all we're doing is chasing/getting linked with players he's coached before. It basically strengthens the accusation that Barcelona simply has no sporting project, unaware of what the squad lacks, and subsequently are just 'winging it' on the transfer market. It's just sad to watch at this point.
But we have hit rockbottom (8-2) and have had to make a drastic pivot. It is true we should have had a long term vision before this moment, but we are in a last ditch desperation move of the outgoing president. In those circumstances the plan with Koeman isn't entirely bad.
Give him full trust and let the manager decide the signings. With that Koeman is bringing players he know works in his system while keeping Barcelona players who will work in his system. Not a bad idea as the Barcelona system in itself is an adaptation of the dutch school of football.
Also the notion of bringing in the players he coached previously is correct, but only a half-truth. Koeman has been managing a national side so he has been selecting the best of all the dutch players. I think it is a key difference than managing a club side and bringing in former players.
So with elections next year, and as a last minute hail mary from Bartomeu, I'm on board with our moves right now. It might fail spectacularly but I do not see many other options.
What other forward signing is there outside of Depay right now for example?
Lautaro? Alexander Isak? Moussa Dembele? Patson Daka?
I think the best option was Jesus if it were part of a pipedream Messi swap, and even he is not spectacular. Given price, quality, experience and manager trust. Depay seems one of the better options, if not the best on the table.
