Memphis Depay

at the end of the day neither depay, wijnaldum, aguero or eric garcia were/are players that would change our club in the future. these are stop-gaps that were feasible from a financial point of view and in line with what the club can do right now.

FDJ on the other hand was the most promising young midfielder in europe and was seen as a player that will be instrumental for our midfield in the future. so it made sens to go into a bidding war for him.

Well, we for sure won't go in the bidding war but it would be a shame to miss on him. We can get him for free, and if we don't sign him there will be no other option on the market. As things stand right now it's either him or no one. IMHO we can't go into another season relying only on Messi goals.

In summer 2022 we can maybe try to sign Haaland or Lautaro but there is 0 chance we can sign either of them this summer. In addition to that, Lautaro probably wouldn't bring anything special to this team.

The issue is not the bidding war it is not having these signings agreed months ago.

PSG may well have thought Messi was going for example and he may now not and funds have been freed up to sign other players... assuming they are even trying to adhere to financial restrictions.

Barca wont get involved in a bidding war as cant afford to more than any idea of it it being bad investment.

He would play as a Striker. PSG already trying too offload the anti footballer icardi

hmm, they could try neymar-depay-mbappe as a sort of mane-firmino-salah type of trident. after all the three of them can switch positions and alternate sides depending on play.

This is dragging , i suspect he will reject us in the last minute. pSG will offer him twice the salary again and they probably going to sign Ramos and Hakimi

Mmmh, given the fact Leonardo talked with Raiola about Kean and they seem to be best buddies when PSG have money to spend, Bar?a should be safe on this case.

Sad times just begun, thank you Barto. Loosing players over salary was not in Barca's basket before few years.

In this case it is probably for the best.
We don't need to sign anyone. This team had no future with the current squad, no matter the signings.
We have to try to stay competitive with what we have and incorporate as many young talented played as we have until the fat contacts of the seniors are resolved.
If we could get rid some seniors now it would be great.

There is no point signing more players that do not improve the squad. It is good to get free players if they are replacing ones that are sold, and are the same standard or better.
But who has been sold?

Depay is absolutely improving the squad and quality of attack, by a fair margin.

People are crazy , our attack is braithwaite trincao and retard dembele and still think depay is not improvement on them.

let's be honest, he hasn't set the world alight either. otherwise big clubs would have pounced on him quickly.

He can be a good hand though.

Back in Laporta's first stint part of the strategy was to get good players that were key players in mid-tier / top teams in the lesser leagues.
E.g.

Giuly @ Monaco
Larsson @ Celtic
Marquez @ Monaco
Edmilson @ Lyon
Belletti @ Villarreal
Van Bommel @ PSV

I'm not including Ronaldinho, Deco and Eto'o in that category although they could apply, as I think they were signed as key players for the project and seen at a different tier.

I think Depay fits that first group, and that he has something to prove at the top level is a good thing. But it is important to get these players that have decent quality and are mentally ready to play for Barcelona.

I got my reservations on how he will co-exist with Messi, but seeing our other options at AML and striker last season (Dembele on the left, Braithwaite) and not knowing how Ansu returns, then I don't really have qualms with Depay now Koeman is 100% staying.
